This is probably PC 1A, But what is http and how can i set it up to download mods and files from my freinds?

http is HYPER TEXT TRANSFER PROTOCOL. Simply, It's what is used for the web to transfer information from client to website and vice versa.

You don't really need to know that though.

For a download link you would need to put on a web page and upload to the webserver this code.

that is the long way of doing it. the easy way is

<a href="/pathtofile/filename">Download File</a>

that is the code for a hyper link.

all you need is a text editor and an ftp program.
Does your friend already have his website up and running?

Hey Kodo,

Sorry I took so long, i'm still trying to get hold of him.
I want to download a mod file from him that he made and he asked me if I had http, I dont think he has a Website up, I think he wanted to go peer to peer or somthing.
I'll try to get more info on what he had in mind. Maybe we can use Gamespy or Somthing.

( I think I'm about to get educated beyond my intelligence) :(

I think perhaps he was asking if you had an FTP.

FTP is File Transfer Protocol but is tended to more or less mean a repository of files to which to download and upload from.

if he wants to send you a file and it's too big to fit in an email, then he can
1. send to you on a CD.
2. upload it to your website (which judging from what you're saying, you don't have)
3. upload to your FTP (which you also don't have BUT we can get you configured with one easily)
4. download it from his ftp or website (which is ????)
5. use something like MSN or AIM or ICQ to transfer the file over.


this is the easiest way to set up an FTP server on windows

download that and install it and Read the instructions.
any questions about setting it up, come on back and let us know; but atleast give it a shot first...you just might learn something new :)

This will allow your bud to upload the files to you.
