Hi,

Not sure if there is anything I can do about it but my DVD/CD-ROM drive on my Smasung V25 laptop plays audio cd without any problems and will load files from CD (after a while) but doesn't seem to want to load any software CD-ROMs or play DVDs.

It sounds like it can't work fast enough to do the job.

I was wondering if there was anything I could do like, cleaning or reloading drivers or maybe something was loose. I think I probably need a new DVD/CD-ROM drive but I thought I would ask those in the know before I went ahead and took it to PC World or where ever.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks Doc

I'm pretty sure that there's a free CD drive speed diagnostic by Nero available for download here at MajorGeeks somewhere.... look thru the Diagnostics download section for it and anything else that may test the health of your drive. Optical drives (esp. laptop drives) can definitely slow down over time due to wear and tear. You could always try a lens cleaning kit (Radio Shack or local PC shop should have 'em), it probably won't help but it's a good item to have laying around....

Thank you,

I will look up the Diagnostics download and look out for a lens cleaner (it can't do any harm).

Great work all.

Thanks
