My daughter moved home for the summer, so we thought we'd be nice and set her up with Internet using a wireless router. Got the PCI card installed in the computer, brought the router home, no luck. I am potentially doing it absolutely wrong. The router we bought is an ASUS WL-520G. I plugged the router into a power source in her room, and the "phone cord type thing" into her computer and the router. Her room is across the hall from the main computer. Am I doing this completely wrong? Any advice? SOOOOO frustrated......:(

yeah you just have it set up wrong.

take the patch cable (phone cord thing) from your modem and put it into the router in the WAN port. then take a cord from the router and plug them into both computers. or if you have one wireless, turn the wireless on and it should work.

Apparently I am an idiot. I have one computer with a wired connection - DSL modem. It only has one spot to plug in a phone type cord, which is a thick blue cable plugged into both the modem and the computer stack. The wireless router, of course, has 4 LAN spot to plug into, plus a WAN port. I've tried several configurations of these cords, and whatever I change seems to affect my computer in that I cannot connect to the internet. What on earth am I doing wrong? It seems to be such a simple thing, and yet it is unattainable.....

Thank you so much for all your help. I am so proud of myself - I DID IT!! I configured the PCI card, got the router set up, and she's on line. Yay me!!
