Hi, Geeks,

I've missed posting here and haven't had much time online for a couple of years because I was doing a final revision on a novel that I started many years ago. Finally, it's published, and I'd love to get your comments, suggestions and advice regarding the website (not to mention that it wouldn't hurt to sell a few books, either).

http://www.alpharising.net (http://www.alpharising.net)

(Someone else has had the .com version of my site name for a couple of years, but they haven't done anything with it.) :(

I built the site myself using Earthlink's "least expensive" web hosting program, Trellix Sitebuilder. I had some grand ideas for what I wanted, but there were many limitations regarding where photos and text could be placed, etc. (they had lots of pre-designed templates, but I chose the only "blank" one). Then I had an unplanned problem. I'd pre-typed much of my text in Word using cool fonts, and the website text box accepted my cut and paste. I had the site lookin' hot, and it all showed just fine on my system, but...alas, unless others had those same fonts on their systems, the fonts didn't translate and their systems "chose" the most suitable fonts! Yikers! Friends and family started reporting that the text was skewed and the line breaks were all out of line, etc. So...at that point I realized why Trellix only allowed 4 font choices that are system fonts on everyone's system (Arial, Times, Verdana, Courier).

So, I had to rewrite everything (it wouldn't convert) and did the best I could using the 4 "ugly" fonts!

I'd be honored if you stopped by my site, and if you want to comment either here or by using the email link from the site, I'd love to get your feedback.:)

Many thanks,
Blockhead (aka GL Douglas)

SIte looks good, story looks interesting and overall, i think that I will have to start saving my pennies. I love a good sci-fi read. Not to mention that it is a nice kick in the butt to get back to my own writing :)

Congrats!!

Wow, thanks all for the input and kind comments...much appreciated.

Halo - I appreciate knowing that I've finally tweaked it into showing correctly.:)

Aragon - I'm hoping for Hollywood to call! :cool Actually envisioned Alpha Rising as a movie as I wrote, but don't know scriptwriting and felt a novel was the way to go.

abz1nthe - Glad you like sci-fi! This is believable with lots of cool thought-provoking action/adventure.:hyper

BILLMCC66 - Spielberg! Ah, yes, it's a recurring dream :cloud9

Calltaker - Thanks for your kind comments. Now, get writing (heh heh). :highfive Check out this very friendly and helpful site. Others post portions of their work for comments/critique, and you can have most all writing questions answered by those who have "been there." There's even an agent who hangs out and posts (JamesARitchie): http://www.writersdigest.com/mbbs/forum/category-view.asp

Best regards to all,

Nice work Blockhead. My wife is writing right now but there isn't enough time to get much accomplished it seems. She's hoping to get published so we can retire.

Hi, sibeer, thanks for the positive input! Need all I can get. I sure know how your wife feels. You have to have your mind in the writing mode to do the best job, and some days becoming your characters and relaying their emotions is just not possible.

I wish you both the best of luck and success, and hope to see you in that great booksellers "retirement" community. :D

Regards,
