I would like to know what I need to transfer data from a desktop to a laptop.
I do not need internet sharing.
Thanks

You have a few choices of ways to go here

Direct Cable connection
(which can be very, very, very slow)

Ethernet
(which is pretty bearable)

USB?
(bearable also)

for a simple connection between laptop and deskop, DCC is probably easier.
We'll need the OSs of both computers, and network cards.
What size approximatley do you want to transfer? if its more than a couple of megs, you would wanna go USB or Ethernet.

Windows XP on the laptop and ME on the desktop.
I would appreciate a bit information on the USB method.
Thanks

That link explains it. seems that USB is done in the same way as a DCC. In XP, to get a DCC, just go to network connections, set up a new connection, advanced option, then select the role of the computer. you'll then get the interfaces. there should be a usb option.
that link explains a bit

ok, i misunderstood. you would need to get a USB bridge, which would work like a network card. if you can get a "crossover cable" and both computers have ethernet, then you may as well use that.
