I am getting a benchmark of 11191 in 3DMark2001 with the following aircooled/non-overclocked system;

ATHLON 1900 XP
ASUS A7A-266E MOBO
512K DDR 2100
CRUCIAL RADEON 9700 PRO (232.00 GBP delivered!)
SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY

I think mobo/memory are major factors in my benchmark being rougly 1000 marks lower in comparison with other 3DMark scores using a similar CPU.

Anyone out there able to confirm my thoughts?

I agree, it's the memory
you could try getting some 2700 memory, and overclock your CPU to 166FSB

Cashy76 - Thanks for reply.

I only have x 1 stock fan in back of PC so are reluctant to o/c CPU. Baring this in mind, what would you consider 'safe' o/c for my 1900 (1676 mhz)?

Will have to get a fan for front of case. Im also considering modding top of case with another fan to let more heat out. Can you recommend a decent (fairly quiet) fan?

I am going to replace mobo/memory/cpu when a bundle with a 333hhz athlon comes down to a acceptable price. I have only just bought Radeon 9700 pro - so piggy bank is empty!

I would recommend getting some extra cooling in there first, before O/C, and a good HSF as well, I just tryed the vantec areoflow HSF, not bad, and very quiet
Vantec 80mm stealth fans are'nt bad, for the case fans

not sure of the O/C limits of the XP1900, if you wait a while, someone with a bit more exprience with AMD should step in, and be able put you in the right direction
about the only thing I can recommend is have a play with it, and find out your self, just don't go to the max settings
start out slow, and work your way up:D

Thanks again for your advice Cashy76.

I agree with cooling requirement. My biggest worry is noise levels as my rig is just right at the moment.

I had read about the Vantec Aeroflow previous - seems like a decent HSF - 15% more efficient with lower rpm due to small spindle (and quiet with it). Alternatively I could go for a Zalman Flower Fan.....

Nonetheless I have 'safely' oc my 1900XP to 2000XP speed (1676.18 mhz - WCPUID) with no apparent problems. And had my Radeon 9700 Pro from 324/310 to 333/326 before artifacts in 3DMark2001.

Defragged/optimised Bios (Bootvis) , cleared excess Windows XP utilities and defragged harddrive.

Benchmark went from 11191 to 11778 - hmmm nice!

Knocked my Radeon back to stock speeds as after a hour session of UT2K3 you could cook sausages on the back of my computer case! (is that possible??)

Make sure you have fans blowing in from the front and out from the back. Your case should always be cool. MIne ambient temp is 18 degrees celsius and cpu 20 degrees. Full load is 22 degrees ambient and 35 cpu!!!!! My panoflo m1a are real quiet and you would never know that there were 4 of them!!!

on a 9500 Pro I got yesterday & I bios flashed it to a 9700 Pro, albeit only has 128 meg buspath to 9700 Pro's 256. Hence my low score.
