oooo i like it! pretty quick and i love how the scrolling (with the middle mouse button) is smooth and not all jumpy
Nice find Bill, cheers.
I see they named the Alpha version after our own Kestrel ;)
hi Halo i have been playing with it for a couple of hours now and it is without doubt faster than FF still looking at what else it has to offer.http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/cool/cool0020.gif (http://www.arlingtonhotelgroup.co.uk)
Seems pretty nice except for the awkwardness of the Home button.
Nice find.

Thanks for that BIll. I was unaware of this release. It'll probably be listed on MG tomorrow, if I know Tim and Jim. :D
I'm using v9.23.8808 at present. Love the speed dial. Have 7/9 set up as links to MG forums.
I'd like them to introduce Speed Dial Folders. I could set up one for MG. Another for Broadband links and speed tests. One for Search Engines, etc.
Will download the BETA :D version now. Bazza
Just downloaded it at an average speed of 433KB/s. :major
Wish all download speeds / sites were that fast. :D
Sure beats the hell out of the 10KB/s that Command and Conquer site tried to foist on me (and 500 megs d/l to boot). :cry :( :p

The speed dial facility converted me. But then again I was only using an AOL skin over IE6. LOL :D Bazza

Hmmm might give it a whirl one of the days.
I just downloaded. Am headed out for the night, but going to check it out tomorrow. I've never used opera. Is there any way to bring your bookmarks from FF over?

lol...and so they were! thanks...I didn't look.
nm...figured my prob out.
Opera is a great browser, but just remember that there are sites even today that have problems with FF and even more with Opera. Even Major Geeks has an issue with the "Chatbox" and the last non beta of Opera.
So always keep your old IE and FF as stand-by's, for just such occassions. Browsing with Opera is a joy otherwise, and much faster than FF, and light years ahead of IE, and more secure too, in my opinion.

I don't need Speed Dial, I have bookmarks for that. Well, I got the Opera Speed Dial thing also, nice concept!

To be honest, it isn't any faster than my FF.
If you enable pipelining in FF, it makes it even faster than it already is. For me, it is just as fast as FF, but it's fun to play with another browser.

Where do you enable pipelining in FF Laura ?
Where do you enable pipelining in FF Laura ?
Type about:config in the url bar and go to that address> In the Filter area, type Network >
Find network.http.pipelining > Right Click on it > Click on Toggle so it says True in the value
Find network.http.proxy.pipelining > Right Click on it > Click on Toggle so it says True in the value
Find network.http.pipelining.maxrequests > Right Click on it > Click on Modify > Change the value to 8
Here's the link on FF ('Enabling Pipelining)- http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/tips#oth_pipelining

Pretty nice so far, clean interface, definitely see a speed increase over FF, the scrolling is a great relief to reading. Also, the memory management is fantastic, FF uses 130MB for 9 open tabs and Opera only uses half that for the same sites. I'm liking this quite a bit so far so I will use it now for a good while and see if I'll switch. Oh, for an Alpha it's been very stable so far, albeit I've only used it for an hour.

I have switched to pipelining and still find Opera faster maybe our setups are different??

hmmm....don't know. I haven't changed anything. It's the same speed for me for both, pretty much immediate load (haha...hows that for tech speak :D). Maybe it has to do with my isp connection?
IE doesn't even compare though (we're talking the tortoise and the two hares)
yep i have to say it's very marginal but it could be the ISP.
has anyone got the spell check working i have the tab but it will not start????
To change MAX connections in Opera to make it slightly quicker in page loads, click Tools > Preferences > Advanced then Network in the menu list then where its says Mac Connectionsto server and Max Total choose 128 for both then OK
Also be aware this is not BETA software but a pre beta in being an ALPHA version, so these are likely much more buggy than betas, and on a side note, thoose who like FF, should try Minefield aka FF3, this is also late Alpha version but IMO works much quicker than FF2, especially with Vista.

Thanks Laura , will certainly try it .
I've got bookmarks for all my MG sites as well, but Speed dial is light seconds :D quicker in finding and executing them. Bazza
@Halo@
Thanks for the hint. Have altered Max and MIn to 128. Will see what happens.

My previous post was poorly worded. Me likey the Speed Dial! If they would give me a Home button on the toolbar I would be sold on Opera.
E
Only downloaded opera 9.23 yesterday (let the rest of you test out the alpha :))
In this version to get the home button onto the toolbar
right-click on vacant space on a toolbar
select 'customise'
select the tab 'buttons'
and drag the 'Home' icon to where you want it.
or
Tools
Appearance
will get you to the same place
I have placed the home & stop buttons up there (not sure why they didn't ?)

Perfect! Works for the Alpha too. :) After you hit the buttons tab, you need to go to browser under categories.
Thanks Shanemail! It works. Well, I guess the Firefox icon will get a bit dusty now...

I'm not sure why I need home and stop buttons.
My Home site is MG, of course, :major and is the first one of my speed dials. As for stop, I simply close down Opera.
Am I missing some use of those buttons that I should load? Bazza

You can get speed dial on Firefox.
Tell me how, please Adrynalyne. I might consider FF as an alternative as it has lots of plug-ins that I have read of. Bazza
