He he.

Bought a Radeon 9700 (non Pro) from Hercules after reading some very good reviews. Came with settings of 277/270. Run 3DMark03 and scored about 2100. Clocked it up to 9700Pro settings (370/310) and now score just short of 5000 :D

Not a bad score for a card that cost me £230 instead of the £280+ for a 9700Pro. 20% saving in cost!

Runs like a dream!!

Anyone get better scores?? How, what settings etc???

thats a real nice overclock, did you use any extra cooling, if not, you could up it even further with some xtra cooling, and a little voltage mod perhaps.
do test it for some hours and try touching the ram.... if ya burn ya fingers its TOO HOT :p

No extra cooling. Just a neatly placed PCI fan dragging any hot air straight out the back of my PC. Plus the fact I got 4 x 80mm fans blowing cool air IN and 5 80mm fans dragging warm air OUT of my box :D (A little negative pressure in their is supposed to help. Not sure myself)

Played BF1942 for 2 1/2 hours straight with card clocked at 9700Pro speeds, and card run superb. NO crashes, NO artifacts, NO overheat. Touched the RAM sinks carefully and they were no more than warm to the touch.

I love this card :D

Just waiting now for MasterTech to come in and tell me that the "Stability of the card is a figment of your imagination".

BTW cannot clock it up any more. The Hercules tweaker only goes up to 375Mhz core/350Mhz mem and above 312Mhz mem the card gives a few anomolies. Tried PowerStrip but it does not seem to like my card at those settings. Crashes the graphics when I use Powerstrip even at lower settings.

Here is my 3DMark03 score for my card at the settings I am using now.

I have it running at 368/305 to keep it below the max settings.

Dont know my friend.

My system is

AMD Barton 2500+ @ 2137Mhz
Hercules Radeon 9700 @ 367/342
2x256Mb TwinMOS PC2700 DDR Ram in nForce2 Dual Channel config
Chaintech Apogee nForce2 motherboard
Catalyst 3.1 Drivers
Hercules Overclocking program.

I have it set at AGP 8x, FSB is at 166(333Mhz DDR), no Voltage hacks, no extra cooling on the card.

Maybe your drivers are not up to date? Or system is at AGP 4x??? Could be one of many reasons. What score are you getting anyway??

The difference is not a great deal. Mine are only fractionally higher.

It may be that you had a background program running or something of the like at the time of the test. I used msconfig to ensure no proggies were loaded before testing to ensure the test was on my card only. Plus, your card actually beats me in some tests.

I think, to be honest, that both cards are running pretty much equal.

I would not worry about it to be honest. Bear in mind I paid top dollar for the best rated Radeon 9700 card on the market (according to several reviews I read) whereas I could have bought the cheapest (and worst rated) 9700Pro for about £30 more. I was not looking for the name tag, more the performance. Hence the fact that my 9700 performs superb.
