Well I'm guesing this the right place because well I tried turning off my computer last and I got a small window saying windows has recovered from a serious error, so I sent the error report. it then opened a new website and it asked if I would like to track it, so I did. The analysis said it was:

"Analysis

A device driver installed on your system caused the problem, but we cannot determine the precise cause. "

Well I checked my other error reports and it seemed I had 2 already just like the above in my special windows thing. And they were all the same problem. Is there any way to check what's wrong with my drivers, like a special scan or something? Also I got the same error this morning.

Well, its hard to say what's going on. Obviously, it is some kind of device driver problem, but you first need to figure out exactly which device had the problem. Then you could try updating the driver.

I'd suggest determining which device had the problem. Most error reports have a filename listed. Write that filename down. Search your hard drive for that file. When your find it, right click it and choose properties. One of the tabe should be "Version". Click on that to determine who made the file that errored. You chould the be able to use Device Manager to find the same manufacturer, and theerby find which device you need to update.

Alternately, type the filename in google, and look for relevant websites. If the manufacturer is listed as "Microsoft", this is really your only option.

I have a picture of the error report and it didn't really have any name....Maybe I have to wait for it again :-\....

I take it you are using XP?

Do you get this Error on every restart?

If so have you updated to SP1?

as within SP1 there is a fix for that problem Q317277 (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=317277) ( note this is the link to the separate patch for that problem only and is NOT the full SP1.. for that goto MS WU )

No I have only got it 4 times altogether and I have every windows update ...

OK.... have you installed any new hardware or software prior to this starting?

Do the error logs show anything or any pattern emerging?

Actually I had the same problem a LONG time ago, over 200 days I believe (I've had my computer for about a year) and well it's odd, but I believe it's my graphics card, because it's an old one that my computer came with (geforce 2, hehe) and well I was going to upgrade when I felt the need and I haven't played any high graphic game on my computer recently.

4 times in 200 days?

Sounds like a fairly obscure bug in some random driver. Probably not something you could reasonably find or fix without replacing hardware or spending way too mcuh time and money.

HEY! I wouldn't worry about the error message.I get them once in awhile too. When I turn up the fsb to much it will not load win xp all the way and when I do start it I get the error message. If you have no problems with your puter and everythin works ok don't fret just bet it will happen again.

The way I see it, it's just a good thing that it "recovered from a serious error." Anyway, I've had lots of those. Luckily, I knew which program I'd just installed and uninstalling them fixed the problem. Too bad I haven't kept a log of all those programs. Maybe I will now.

Yea windows sucks try this restart your comp, went it starts to reboot hit f8 and restart in safe mode then run scandisk then restart this makes the drivers behave them selfs this works when I get those kinds of errors'

P.S. if you runing win/98 go to system info/ then click tools then file checker that will work also hope this helps out

its windows. windows xp is not stable for one, and it routinely crashes on assorted computers for no reason at all, especially when trying to shut down. "PAGE FAULT IN UNPAGE AREA" is my favorite error i have seen. what would be the serious error? windows was installed? windows started up? GASP! windows accessed the hard drive?!

oh, and never submit reports of errors. god knows what its sending from your computer. and it never helps anyways. just update ALL of your drivers for every piece of hard ware that you can.

XP has to be one of the most stable OSes to come from Redmond to date..... this install of mine is still going strong from its last re-install date of 26/07/2002 with only the odd error in the event logs DUE to me messing with services.

Most errors are user caused and or Hardware/Driver related... plus the odd excess overclocking faults.

Ah, what video card do you have?

I occasionally have this same problem, and i think its releated to my video card.

If i get it usually i boot in safe mode then re-install my drivers and it usually fixes it untill it decides to go screw them up again in another week or so.

hmm, i used to have one of them in my old PC, which is now a decrepic low memory win2k box which i use for recording.. ANYWAY

Might have somthing to do with the nVidia drivers... what are your other specs? like, mobo etc. since i have a Pcchips mobo (booo, hiss!!!) and it might be somthing about nVidia cards/drivers not playing nice...

Tried updating your AGP drivers?

Who is the manufacturer of your motherboard?

They will have drivers for your AGP port (well mine did anyway) which is what i presume you have your video card on. Im not totally sure what it actually DOES but the techies told me to download them once :)

Uhh my computer and such is all from Compaq if that's what you mean. o.O I've never even heard fo AGP.

Ahh, i see.
Well, in that case i doubt you will be able to update your agp drivers.

AGP is Accelerated (or is it?) Graphics Port, which is basicially the interface between your video card and the rest of the PC. With my mobo you can get drivers for this, like chipset drivers, which seems to increace video performance, and resolved that issue.

Compaq, however, probably wont supply you with one of these, but i guess its worth a shot anyway!

You might try AIDA32 (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=183) to get the make and model of your mobo and chipset. You might then be able to go to the OEM manufacturer's website or the chipset manufacturer's website and find these kind of drivers.

The only problem is that big brand PCs occasionally function different than retail versions that the drivers are made for. That means the drivers might muck up your system.

To make things simple, Balbane... AGP is the slot that your video card is in on your motherboard. And I didn't know you could download drivers for the actual slot.. !! Chicken's recommended program, AIDA32 is awesome. I'll vouche for that one.

Yes, I have had Aida32 for like a couple months now. And am glad they released a new version.
