hi, I wish to share my files, but am having problems. I tried wwwfileshare, but it doesn't work- people can't see my files. Now someone mentioned because I have a router (DL 614 wireless Lan), but I am a complete novice and I didn't understand about DMZ and all. Is there an easier way to be able to share my files. Maybe FTP or so? Remember I'm absolutely new to this. But I would appreciate any help on this matter. Thank you very much.

You will need to go into your router setup, and tell if to forward port 21-22 to the IP of the computer you want to share from
(get the IP address by typing in run : cmd, then ipconfig in the dos window.)

hope this helps a little

a router is a bit vague. usually you can get into the setup by typing its IP into a browser, like I.E. somthing like
http://192.168.0.1/
thats a common one for class c networks. If you look in your router manual you should find somthing about setup. You want to look for Port Forwarding.

It might help if you tell us what make/model of router. if its a netgear router i may be able to help :)

Right i think its a D-Link router.....

http://support.dlink.com/Products/view.asp?productid=DI-614+

Its DI not DL :) that foxed me for a bit..!

Yeah, okay i got the manual.... says you can set it up using a browser as i said...
Whilst your there you might want to upgrade your firmware.... which it explains in the FAQ.

You wont have set an admin password and if you have you will have been told about it. just click this :
http://192.168.0.1/
and type the username as "admin" noquotes and no password.

Once you are in hit the LAN button on the left.

i dont know where to go from there, sorry!

okay i have an answer:

you will need to open port 21 to the PC you set the ftp server up on.
