Hi everyone,
I purchased a new dell laptop with a built in webcam. the software that came with it allows for remote view but does not tell you how to do this. It also has a sensor to turn on when something is in its view. I would like to be able to see what the babysitter is doing when we are not there. I have a linksys router and cable modem (high speed). can I do this without buying into a high price web site?

thanks

Joe

There are all kinds of "security cam" software out there..
If you're a Windows user, several free tools are available to help you do just that. The best option of the bunch is probably the Windows-only Yawcam. Yawcam does motion-sensing with very little setup, then automatically backs up surveillance images via FTP or email. Alternately, there's the open-source Dorgem (http://dorgem.sourceforge.net/) and web service HomeCamera (original post). Each tool has a slightly different feature set, but between the three of them you're bound to find the features you want from your security webcam.
