Hi Everyone.
New to the Forum.
I recently acquired a Pentium III 8750C, running Windows 98 second edition.
This computor was formerly owned by my sister who ran it on dial up..
I now run it on a LAN connection
The dial up has been disabled. My problem is that I cannot manage to get AVG to quit looking for the dial up connection in order to get the updates for virus's...
Also some downloads cannot find a clear path etc.
I uninstalled my sistes version of AVG hoping that by reinstalling it it would find a new file to download into.
However, after doing this I still get the message "Failed to find default Dial-Up." Can someone please help me out.

Hi Ellen,
Try posting this in the software section as well. I bet you'll find a lot of help there.

Try these steps -

Close all windows except for the Main Windows 98 screen.
Double click the My Computer icon to open.
Double click on the Dial-up Networking icon to open.
Right click and Delete/Remove all connections except the LAN connection.

Reboot machine into Safe Mode. (Hold CTRL or F8 during boot.)
Use arrow keys to choose Safe Mode and ENTER.
Right click My Computer icon, choose Properties.
Choose Hardware tab, open/expand network adapters.
Right click and Delete/Remove all adapters except modem and NIC being used for LAN connection.
Keep modem disabled.

Close out and reboot to normal mode.

I'm not sure, you might have to uninstall and reinstall AVG.
Hope this helps.
