Hi, a while ago I had a root kit, and I assumed this problem was because of it, but the root kit is gone (some how), the problem occurs when I navigate to a website or download link...

I've recently visited this site: http://www.thechroniclesofspellborn.com/en/index.html

I can no longer visit it, with Trend Micro (my firewall) on, it says 'The connection was terminated while negotiating a connection'.

Without it on, it says 'Network Timeout' the server at ... is taking to long to respond,

The requested site did not respond to a connection request and the browser has stopped waiting for a reply.

I've changed no settings recently, so I can't see why this is happening, I do know sometimes when I navigate to a website (from google) it redirects me to something else... not sure if that's related or not, I doubt it :/.

This problem isn't recent though, nearly a month now perhaps, initially I had trouble downloading from Microsoft.. trying to update DirectX, but I could not download the plugin to verify my copy of windows, nor go to the alternative method page.

Also downloading some programs from sites also doesn't work (sometimes)

Also... My auto updates do NOT run, I'm not sure why (for Windows), so I'm not receiving updates :/

I'm using Windows XP SP2, my internet has an ethernet connection.

Our router's plugged into a Time Capsule (Mac backup device & router as well), which my computer is plugged into the time capsule.

Any idea what the problem is?

Kind Regards

You need to complete the advice given in this thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=175649 to ensure you are clean of malware before we start to look at other issues. They could be related.

Once the Authorized Malware Fighters have given your PC a clean bill of health come back here if you are still having problems :)

Yes, there's something wrong with that website.
