Is it necessary to use vinyl dye when painting your case?

Well some types of paints can be a bit harsh to plastics. Also dye will not build-up on the surface such as paint would. Again some types of paint will not adhere to plastics very well & you will get chipping & peeling.

These are only my own observations & others may have different experiences.

Use a plastics primer first, about 2-3 thin coats, then you can use auto paint on it.
