I'm glad to see that you've included this work-horse of AV utilities on the forum, NIck.

I've used F-Prot since it was just in the process of being invented in early DOS days by a group in Iceland called Datafellows. A whole bunch of us alpha- and beta-tested a lot of ealy DOS versions before the first Windows versions of F-Prot, F-Secure, FRISK, and all of the other little F-ers were marketed by the company that bought out the Datafellows group.

It's great AV protection, and Dr. Bontchev, the research head at F-Prot since the beginning, is a world-famous leader in AV work.

worm first detected on 18 January 2004. This worm has rapidly
gained momentum over the past 24 hours and has spread
considerably.

Risk:
Due to its distribution W32/Bagle.A@mm is estimated to be
medium risk.

Recommended Reactions:
Users of F-Prot Antivirus should update their virus signature
files immediately. W32/Bagle.A is detected by F-Prot
Antivirus using virus signature files dated 19 January 2004
and later.

FRISK Software recently released an enhanced version of F-Prot Antivirus for Windows, version 3.15. This newest version takes advantage of the added features introduced by Microsoft’s Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) with Advanced Security Technologies. FRISK Software has, in recent months, worked with Microsoft Corp. to ensure the smooth interaction of F-Prot Antivirus for Windows and the new Windows Security Center.

The free service pack from Microsoft delivers the latest security updates and innovations, establishes strong default security settings, and adds new proactive protection features that will help better safeguard computers from hackers, viruses and other security risks. Windows XP users who also use F-Prot Antivirus for Windows should update to F-Prot Antivirus for Windows version 3.15 in order to maximize the security of their systems.

"F-Prot Antivirus works with the Windows Security Center to keep users updated on the security status of their systems."

The most important new feature introduced in version 3.15 of F-Prot Antivirus for Windows (released 30 June 2004) is the addition of an online virus signature file update checking facility, called the F-Prot Antivirus Update Monitor. The program now automatically checks for new available virus signature files every fifteen minutes, whenever the system is online. The Update Monitor does not download any files but is, in effect, an extension to the F-Prot Antivirus Updater, notifying the user when new virus signature files need to be downloaded.

The virus signature files update status information is conspicuously displayed on the program's startup so that users can see at a glance whether updates are needed. Users can then download the new virus signature files, either manually with the Updater or set the Scheduler to do so at regular intervals. As a result of the addition of the F-Prot Antivirus Update Monitor, it is now even easier than before for users to ensure the constant security of their systems against new and emerging threats.
