First analysis of Worm.Win32.Bagle:
Bagle comes with an own SMTP engine to spread itself via email attachments. It searches in several files on the harddisk for email addresses which are used as the sender-addresses of the emails.

The subject is always: Hi

The message body starts with: Test =)

The worm attachment may have several file names. Don't open and run attached files of emails you don't know!

Worm.Win32.Sober.D Alert!
After the many new NetSky and MyDoom variants of the last weeks, a new variant of the Sober Worm arrived. Worm.Win32.Sober.D - so it's official name - uses the publicity of the MyDoom Worm as well as the confusion about the many new worms at the users to spread.

Sober.D masks itself as a warning email for the MyDoom Worm. In German speaking countries it sends itself in German language. In all other regions English is used.

The email subject is:

The english email body text is:

New MyDoom Virus Variant Detected!

A new variant of the W32.Mydoom (W32.Novarg) worm spread rapidly through the Internet.
Anti-virus vendor Central Command claims that 1 in 45 e-mails contains the MyDoom virus.
The worm also has a backdoor Trojan capability.
By default, the Trojan component listens on port 13468.

Protection:
Please download this digitally signed attachment.
This Update includes the functionality of previously released patches.

The email contains an attachment like all other current worms which is the worm. If you open the attachments, the Worm is activated and begins to spread itself.

If you run the worm, you will get the message:

Sober.D can be detected and removed with a² with the latest signature updates loaded. The a² background guard blocks the worm immediately if it is started.

well first I had only a few points listed what was changed. But well, I guess there should be a few more information.

Well what was changed:
Scanner, Updater and Guard.

We improved the Windows 95 compatibility with the very first Windows 95 variants. A² should work with all Windows 95 versions now . Looking forward to the upcoming Windows XP SP2 release we backported some a² v2 routines that were already tested by many SP2 users to make sure a² v1 is Windows XP SP2 ready . This doesn't neccessarily mean the SP2 will be released before a² v2 ... its just to be sure .

While we backported some routines from v2 to v1 to increase Windows XP SP2 compatibility we also decided to rework the updater. Many had some nasty proxy server issues or very high system load. Well we backported the v2 updating "engine" to the v1 updater introducing 2 new features that you can't see on client side directly:

First we introduced load balancing. This was necessary cause of the high update load. We have more than 800000 customers so far producing more than 1500 GB of update traffic every month. Thats why we had to reduce update frequency in the past to ensure the update servers won't crash under the high load. This will change now cause there isn't one server anymore there are 3 servers serving your update requests. For you this means: More frequent updates and faster downloads.

Secondly we prepared the update for the big a² v2 update. We want to be sure nobody has to do a full reinstall of a². You just have to use the update feature to switch to the next upcoming a² generation.

Of cause we reworked many details. Just compare the system load produced by the old and by the new updater .

And well ... last but not least a little status about a² v2 cause we get hundreds of mails a week:

Currently we are fixing the last issues of the guard and the used drivers. So far they are quite stable cause our testers did a great job finding bugs (thanks again for your great work buddies ). Originally we planned to release 2 further internal beta stages but we finally decided to release only one further internal beta and to release a public beta version as soon as possible .

I hope this helps a little bit to reduce the number of "When will a² v2 be released?" mails .

Oh and by the way:

You need 2 update steps. The first step installs the new updater and after a restart the new updater installs the remaining updates .

You can now choose if you want to get language file updates via the updater or not. To disable language file updates please log in at the a² Control Center and uncheck the "Language Updates" checkbox at your licenses:
http://cc.emsisoft.com/en/licenses

If you remove the language files on your system, they will not be downloaded again if you run an online update.

But never delete the language file you are currently using! Otherwise a² will not work any longer and a re-install is necessary.

Hi,

we just completed the rollout of a² v1.6. We had to do it in stages to avoid an overload of our update servers. Everyone will ask what is new - well I will tell you:

1. Added some IDS components
In fact we added the behavorial detections for backdoors, worms, dialers and some other stuff. Feel free to test the IDS features. We are sure you will be impressed .

2. Made Riskware detection optional
Several users asked for it and your wishes are our duties . We added an option to disable the detection of Riskware completely

3. Added heuristic modules
Some heuristics were added for - mostly - trojans and dialers.

4. GUI changes
We changed the GUI a little bit to make it easier to understand.

5. Consistent language files
All language files of languages we support (spanish, german, english, frensh) were updated. If you want to update the language file of your language just look into the file English.lng. All changed and added strings are marked.

A new setup package will be available in about 2 - 10 hours (depending on how fast we get the missing translations). To update from versions before 1.6 to 1.6 simply run the updater and restart if neccessary. A complete reinstall of a² is NOT neccessary.
