A repackaged version of the recent W32/Netsky.d@MM virus, W32/Netsky.j@MM is another Medium Risk mass-mailing worm that, like its predecessor, tries to deactivate the W32/Mydoom.a@MM and W32/Mydoom.b@MM viruses on an infected computer. Watch for "Re:" as part of the subject line and attachments with a .pif extension, such as your_file.pif or document.pif. Using its own SMTP engine, W32/Netsky.j@MM also sends itself to email contacts stolen from the infected computer, spoofing or forging the "from: field".

Up-to-date McAfee VirusScan users with dat 4335 are protected from this threat.

The 4374 DAT files have been approved for release and have been posted to the initial NAI servers at 18:35 GMT on 07-07-2004. Please allow up to an hour from this posting time for the DAT files to be available on all download servers worldwide.
