I finished with my new computer so now I installed win 98 SE on my old one
these specs are amd 1800+, shuttle ak31 ver3.1, 512mb pc2100, wd 80g hdd, Abit Siluro 64mb GF3 VIO w/41.09
everything installed nice no problems except under system info in both 3dmark01 and sisandra it says that I only have agp set at 1X!!!
it is set at 4X in bios, agp aperture is 64
any suggestions? Prior to new computer it always read 4X

sounds strange try installing a program called nvhardpage here
http://download.guru3d.com/nvhardpage/

this amongst other things will give you the option to set the agp rate within windows bear in mind this will only work on detonator versions 40.41 and higher so you would have to update those have you tried any of the 50 series drivers very good and stable

I installed the newest drivers 53.04 and tried that nvhardpage
it says to activate it but when i go to nv control panel nuttin different is there and when nvhardpage is closed than reopened they all are deactivated except for coolbits and even in the control panel it says AGP 1X with the current drivers

hi just had a look on mobo website couple of things have you got the latest bios as listed here is a fix for geforce 3 with 64mb aperture size maybe relevant
http://www.shuttle.com/share/fae/hq/download/bios_rdm/readmeak31v3x.htm

also just a thought have you installed the via chipset drivers for this board theres some listed here but i would avoid any 4-1 drivers after the 4.49 set as the 4.50s seem to cause more trouble than they are worth
http://www.shuttle.com/hq/support/download/dwn2.asp?model=AK31

or here but read the paragraph in the middle reccomending 98 users use an older version

let us know how you get on

yeah I have the most recent bios 4-17-02. I used the via drivers from shuttle cd 4.32's I believe I will try the 4.35's tho not too optimistic that this will cure it
benchmarks are the only thing suffering from this as most games we got installed play flawlessly. Temple of Elemental Evil has an intro scene that is really choppy otherwis gameplay is good.

here is the link to compare 6864 score with win98 and agp1X than 7308 with win xp 4X

3dmark2001se agp1X (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7393068)

7308 score with win XP (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=5397858)

hi m8 sure is a strange one anyway i got bored so been searching round found a shuttle owner with similar problem but on xp anyways heres his fix

I dug out the CD again tonight and ran the SETUP.EXE under the IDE MAINBRD folder, letting it replace the audio, network, and graphics drivers (actually in a bid to get ATA133 support, but ironically I had to do that the other way!) - NOW I have agp 4x

thats using the mobo cd might be a long shot
or you might not worry too much if your getting good game performance as thats what its all about

apart from that im fresh out of ideas sorry m8

same thing with the ATI 7500
I wonder if this is a windows 98 thing
however the intro scene plays much better with this older card ?
bench was 5147 3dmark2001se
