View Full Version : Maybe a stupid question
I have a linksys 4 port router and I run 2 pc's a xbox, and a ps2 off it. My Daughter is getting a laptop and was gonna see If I could somehow use a wirless router and my router. Like have both running at the same time. I have a business account with comcast so i am allowed a few extra IP's. All of my ports are full on my wired router and just want to add a wireless connection for her. Any suggestions?
I'm not an expert at networking but I'd think that you need to set up your wireless router from one of your pc's. Not sure if it depends on the platform but I'm thinking you'll have to get share access through that pc. if it gets too difficult, scrap the 4 port router for a few bucks and upgrade your ports on your wired hardware.
Buy a Wireless Cable/DSL Router (about $30 in the USA), and use it as an Access Point with a Switch.
Unplug one computer from the old Router Plug it to the new router and use the free port to connect both Routers.

Thanks for the help...I kinda had this in mind just didn't know how to set it up. Still a lil confused but at least I know that I am not wasting money on this wireless router. I will now have my regular network plus my on hotspot!
