View Full Version : t1 and cable modem diffrences
how much faster is t1 then a regular cable modem?
Alot.
Depends what you class as cable, and what speed the t1 line is.
It depends.
For instance, I get about 3mbit downstream on cable, which is twice as fast as a t1. However, I only get about 512kbit upstream which is only a third the speed.
The biggest difference is that a t1 allows traffic in both directions at one time, where a cable modem sends and recieves cyclically. If you were doing webhosting or running a gamesever the cable modem would be at a significant disadvantage. If you are looking just for your own personal use for downloads or playing in games the cablemodem will be the better choice.

**/edited info, a full t1 is 1.5 mbit/sec up and downstream, fractional t1's often come in 64kbit blocks up to the full 1.5 mbit amount. /**
i just switched to t1 and did a test that shows 721.2 kbs is that good? should it be better ?
I just tested my cable, and I'm currently getting 2.2 mbits downstream which is higher than the maximum t1 speed. Its really going to depend on your cable provider and the plan you pick.
