View Full Version : My Luck... Always

This type of thing has happened to me all my life. My luck is horrible to the point where I'm beginning to think I have a curse. This is the story... my girlfriend's car has had expired tags for 3 months, which I have got on to her about several times. She doesn't have a job, and therefore cannot afford tags. The car also has no insurance, which she also cannot afford.

Today, I decided to chance driving her car since mine was out of gas and I had no money at the time to put any in it (my bank account is in the negative right now). On my way to work, there was a traffic jam, of course, due to a wreck on the right-hand side of the interstate. Naturally, I get into the H.O.V. lane since the traffic is least backed up in that lane. My luck... a cop is sitting just waiting for a sucker like me to come along, and, whaddya know... he pulls me over.

Now I have a ticket for no proof of insurance, expired tags, no Tennessee driver's licsence, driving in the H.O.V. lane, and no seat belt! (even though I did have my seat belt on! So I guess I'm looking at $1,000 dollars in fines... hell... I don't know. The part I love about it all is that my girlfriend has rode around in that car for 3 months in the same condition and never got caught, but the very first day, the very second I decide to drive the car, I'm destined to be pulled over in it.

I guess I must have done something horrible in a past life to deserve this kind of karma, or maybe I am cursed. I don't know, but I'll be running around for the next couple of months trying to get this car legal so that I don't have to pay a million dollars in traffic violations. Even so, there's no way to get out of the H.O.V. violation, which will cost approximately $100 according to others that have experienced the same.

Thanks, God!

I wouldn't blame God. I'd blame poor judgement. Driving with no license, no insurance, no vehicle tag, by yourself in HOV lane is like raising a tall metal pole at the top of a hill in a lightning storm. You asked for it.

And btw, the ONLY time it is acceptable to drive any car anywhere for any reason without valid insurance is when you can afford to pay any damage you may cause out of your own pocket. Which is never for those that drive without insurance.

Been hit twice by morons without insurance. Their fault both times. I detest them.

Perhaps a new gf also would be a good thought. No future in this one if after 3 months, she cannot get it together.

Sorry to be so blunt. ;)

You know Boom Boom,, a year ago I would have read your post, and thought how unbelievably cold, unfair, and uncalled for that was. But, after some things that have happened to me in the aforementioned year,, I tend to agree with you.

Disclaimer,, that is just my thought,, and caused by just one person, and in T-rex's case, might not be true at all.

G.T. is, of course, right about it being my fault, and I'm not seriously blaming God. Even though it's bad, it was meant to be a joke. I know what happened is my fault, but, again... I drove her car for the sole purpose of her needing to drive her mother around today and I didn't want her driving around her car. I thought it was a logical solution for me to drive her car once to work, leave it parked all day, and drive it home.

This is logical since she would be driving her mother around all day long, her chances would have been greater of getting pulled over than mine would to just drive twice that day. Yes... I have tried to talk to her and make her understand that it doesn't matter how badly her mother needed to "run errands" and since she was her mother, she should understand that her car is totally illegal and not push the matter anymore. But I guess you just have to know her family... they don't care about anyone but themselves and what they need done.

And being that Tasha is as caring and soft-hearted as she is... she cannot... and I mean cannot tell her family "no" under any circumstances. I've tried and tried to talk to her about this, but blood is thicker than water, I guess. I don't have an ounce of respect for her family, though... I'll tell you that much. And as for me and my judgement... I do the best I can... at least when it comes to things like this.

I still say I'm cursed. So there... :p

edit

and BTW... I didn't hit anybody. I'm probably the safest driver around this damn town. Everyone drives like maniacs around here... Nashville has a nickname... and it's Crashville.

LOL. Memphis isn't far behind. Dumbest drivers I've ever seen in my life, and NOBODY observes stop signs, traffic signs, speed limits, or even rational self-protection.

Sounds like both you and Tasha have your hearts in the right places, but the head has to be engaged as well or the heart will get you into trouble constantly. I don't know how old you two are, but Tasha is going to have to learn to say no. It's part of being an adult, no matter who is involved.

And no matter how good a driver, or how careful, it's possible to be legally at fault in an accident that logically and morally wasn't your fault. When I was 18, a 4 year old girl ran out from between 2 parked cars, RIGHT in front of me. No time to stop or even swerve. I can still close my eyes and see her bouncing off the hood and flying like a rag doll. Concussion, shattered leg & hip, other injuries. She survived (thank God), many thousands of dollars later. I was doing less than the posted speed limit, could not have avoided it short of x-ray vision, but since I was an "adult" and she was 4 yrs old, the judge declared it was my fault, and my responsibility. Had insurance, or I'd likely still be paying off the hospital bills.

If you/she/whoever can't afford insurance, you can't afford to be driving. Period. Feel free to share that with her.

And friend, Boom Boom has a point. No matter how sweet she is, if she can't get herself separated from a bad-news family, you're setting yourself up for years of grief. That may sound heartless and cold, but it's the truth. Feel free to share that with her too. She's got to grow up & toughen up some, for her own good.

For the record, the only people in NC that use turn signals are from out of state ;)

Or those that bumped it accidentally months ago and still haven't noticed it... or know what it means.

Same here.

Well just because a guy is paranoid doesn't mean that everyone isn't out to get him.

You say you must be cursed, you most likely are. All the little habbits we carry from upbringing bad situations and not having the resources to get proper information, etc. add up to one big curse.

Now that this is established what to do to reverse the curse? The simplest and cheapest way to start to reverse the curse is with some easy breathing excercises. Works like a champ for me. Every evening berfore sleep do a quick breathing exercise. Breath in slowly and fully using the diaphram through your nose and exhale slowly (twice the length as the inhale) through your mouth. The only thing you are to think of is your breath. Start out with one and if you can do one full cycle without another thought go to two. After training yourself to focus on one or two, try for five or ten. You can start and restart as you like, but every time you successfully complete your goal give yourself credit and set a higher achievable goal.

Soon you will be amazed at how the world falls into place, I kid you not. The added benifit is when a stressfull situation comes along you will automatically breath and calm right down and see the situation for what it is.

Takes work on this every day, but if you decide to not do it, don't cry to me argentina. And if you don't like it you can always go back to the way you were and it didn't cost a penny. :)
