I only see threads for Folding@home in here. Some of you may be interested in SETI@home or SETI boinc. I'm currently crunching Seti@home for a team that will remain nameless(keeps me out of trouble) looking for ALIENS. Actually looking for signals from space that may indicate intelligent life. All based on a signal recieve back when computers were relatively new. SETI is looking for that signal or another one similar to it in the hopes of discovering an inteligent race that has at least enough tech to send a signal.:p
I feel that we will find aliens (or they will find us) regardless if we search for them.
It is a good cause but i feel folding has more to do with our current little piece of reality than SETI.
Our town just lost a little girl to cancer and i know of several people that are fighting cancer right now and if folding can help just a little bit then that is where my cpu time is going.
By the way, i just got my face fixed , how do you like it?
going to get some tatoo's next!!!! :p :p ;)
my mom died from parkinsons. it is inherited. i fold. i'd listen for aliens if they promised to take my ex and do lots of tests on him :p
Im glad Im not your ex!!!! ;)
Martinch, lookin' good! Tigerray, do you think any intelligent life out there would want to have anything to do with us?
Like mew2 says, folding is something current that can directly benefit our species.

We used to have several teams on other projects -- It all seems to have migrated to this one over time.

Yeah, we used to do BOINC and Neo, but its more worthwile to all concentrate on one project, as we have more combined CPU power, so we get better ratings :)
Not that it really makes too much of a differance to me, but if Folding@home is the focus right now for Major Geeks, then it would probrolly be a good idea to take off Neo and the other things from the forum topic listing and list Major Geeks Team Folding, insted of Major Geeks DC-Teams (Neo, Folding, TSC, Etc). This would give a better Idea of what we are doing and be less intimadating for the only slightly geeky like myself... I fold now with both of my pc's and would have done it from the start if I'd bothered to look in the forum to know about it... I didn't know what all the other stuff was though and looked one day out of boredom. On that note, I might label it as (Major Geeks Teams! Come take a look!) and see if we can't get some more people in the forum and thus folding with us.
Just some ideas, take em or leave em, or delete em if you wish :D
Thanks again,
Blaine

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Folding is bad or anything or that Seti@home is better. It's just that most DC forums I've visited deal with more than just one. I know some people out there have networks and might be willing to add or do more than just one. There's a new type of DC out called Boinc that's supposed to let you do more than one. It basically runs the one you tell it to and then if there's a server down or you can't link up for some reason it'll work on another dc until that one is connected again. Like running Folding@home until there's some problem and you can't get more WU's then it'll run SETI WU's until Folding is up again. I'm not sure what dc's are available through Boinc, but I thought people might be intersested in it.;)
P.S. My dad got me to run SETI before I knew anything about DC, otherwise I'd have been running F@H by now.
what are BOINC, Neo, TSC?
We did boinc.... it was just too unreliable.
Perhaps if/when folding is intergrated into BOINC, we might go back to it.
Neo was just a joke after their little split personality problem.
Here is the story of The Neo Project. Once upon a time there was a DC project called "The Neo Project". And then...

We don't like illegal stuff here. We work for charities, and fueling an illegal project isn't the sort of charity we like supporting (as a whole)
)
TSC is ... actually I don't know what TSC is, but we don't do it any more ;)

Your right Boinc has been having a series of problems, a lot of people on my Seti team have been holding off on switching over because of this. From what I understand though, and don't quote me on this, 'cause I might be wrong, Folding is supposed to have been integrated recently(I'll do some research and let you know for sure), and a lot of the bugs have been worked out. The people at Team Anandtech that are using setiboinc have been saying that the boinc server has been running fine of late.

Here's a link for you Goldfish.

You were right Folding itself was not integrated, but I believe the above link is very similar.
They are still have some minor problems. These are easy, although time consuming, fixes.
I think it won't be long before they get the last of the bugs worked out.:)
Like you though, I'm waiting until they do.;)

Thats what we said about 2 years ago.... :p
If BOINC ever does get into shape, it would be perfect for us to migrate to. However, just look at the number of people in our folding team... they wouldn't take too kindly to us saying "Hey, guys, folding is just SO yesterday, now come over to {project X}!". We would probably take pretty serious casualties.
As I said, we used to do setiboinc, for a while, but we lost too many points, and with a team our size that was a ludicrous ammount, we never got anywhere.

I agree with you there.:)
