Hello "geeks",

I have just replaced my "host" computer on a network and can't get the LAN connection back.

My wife's and my computers are on a satellite connection (broadband) and have had this connectivity for several years now. I just bought a new computer and can't get it to recognize each other.

I ran the Network wizard on mine then I ran it via a floppy on hers and it's not connecting. I finally got my new one to connect to our existing
"workgroup" name although it's not called workgroup and I have Internet connectivity but she doesn't.

Our configuration is our satellite modem connects to a "linksys" router then to each computer.

I'm missing something here as I don't do this every day I suspect it's easy for someone out there having more experiience with networking.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

JimU

How many IP addresses does your provider allow you? If only one, you will need to NAT the addresses and use DHCP on your router.. Its not all that difficult to do.

Like I said, we've had been networked over two years with the same ISP. (Direcway satellite). I have it set up with DHCP.

"Oh My" Rickm. I am truly "redfaced". After further investigating, I found the problem and it was due to "dumb me" not reistalling the router software for my "Linksys" router.

I plan to make a list as I probably only do this for people (let alone myself) about once or twice a year.

I apologize and do appreciate all your efforts to help me.

Sincerely,
