Howdy,

My wife and I finally moved our "offices" away from each other. I am thankful for the space - she likes to stay upstairs... We are both happy, except we would like to be able to communicate while working. We have a dialup connection that is not always on and the printer is down here with me... etc.

My question is this:

How can I blast some text onto her desktop and vice versa without a server and a domain setup? And without emailing over the web? Obviously we don't have Exchange either.

There must be a way to splash a box - even a dos window - onto the other's desktop... Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

there's the low tech NET SEND command at the "DOS" prompt. or
maybe something like this

If you have 2000 or XP on both machines, do this.

start, run and type winchat

That is it. Microsofts built in chat program.

Another option is Netmeeting which comes with almost all windows versions.

go to start, run and type conf Netmeeting is a little heavier than the first but you have more options like voice, video, program sharing and file sending to name a few. If your just wanting to send chat back and forth then winchat is for you.

good luck

Eh, you mentioned that you have a dial up connection though. I'm not sure that net send, nor any of the other ideas you are talking about would work without at least a network.
