PHP

I think that I want to learn PHP. I did a search about it, but I ended up finding dumb tutorials and links to useless bits of code I could salvage.

I have two questions:

1) Is PHP a useful language as far as website development is concerned, and what are some of the more common uses of PHP?

2) Does anyone know a good resource for learning PHP? I'm thinking web guides as I'd rather not have to go all the way to a store and try to find a book.

Yes PHP is useful for Web Site development... And if you do run it I would advise to run it on Apache...
