Downloads just stop

Here is my problem, while trying to download a file or update windows the download just stops. Some times I can cancle and it will pickup from where it started and download a little more of the file then some times it doesnt. What I was wondering is there a program, a free one, that will tell me maybe whats going on. Like is my router is droping the connection.

P.S just in case you want me to look into the firewall on the router, I can't. The guy who put the password on it isnt here so I can't get in.

P.S.S I forgot I work in a computer shop and its not just one machine its any that are hooked up to the network.

I figured out what was going on. We had the sasser worm on out network. Our server must have been letting us download something and then stoping us. After cleaning every single computer on the network I'm able to download files now.

On a side note Norton sucks.
