Can anyone tell me to correct procedure for reconnecting two network drives over a peer to peer network, One pc is WinMeand the other is a laptop with XP home, I have mapped both the drives and they have connected ok, but i have a problem when i switch the computers back on. Obviously I cant switch them both on at the same time, so only one reconnects to the other.... Is there a simple way to reconnect them both up with out remapping them both ????????

are you saying that the drive mappings are dropped when you reboot?

i'm guessing you are having problems seeing each computer in windows in general? you'll hae to be a little more specific...

how are the computers attached:

hub
twisted cable
printer port
serial port??

if it is one of the first two, what network cards to you have? what network protocols? can you ping the other machine

cheers

when you created the drive mappings, did you check the box that said "reconnect at log-on" ?

Yup i did, but i can only switch on one comp at a time, so the second comp i switch on is fine, but the first one doesnt have a active comp to connect to

oooh. ok, I see your problem.

When the other machine has completely finished booting..

just open windows explorer and right click on the drive mapping and I believe you should have a menu option that says "reconnect"

I do belive just double clicking on the drive, even though it has a red X should restore the connection as well.

No, there is only an option to disconnect????

The network drive currently has a red x underneath it?????

what happens when you double click on it?

i know, this may not be helpful... but yoyu could always just use the "network neighbourhood" part of explorer.....

however - just to re-iterate, the rest of the network works fine... its just the mapped drives?

yeah the network runs fine the only prob i have is reconnecting the mapped drives
