item can't be found or trashed

I downloaded a movie clip off the web and I see the icon for the thing but get the "Cannot do what you want because the item cannot be found" type error.

Can't Get Info, move to Trash or any other location. I can move the icon to different locations on the desktop. But that's it...

Used Norton Disk editor and it shows the size to be a couple of megs. Cannot get info in Disk Editor either.

HexEdit gives the "Item cannot be found' error as well.

Reboot does nothing.

Any thoughts appreciated...

have you booted from a system CD? and tried to access it that way? Have you used a software called "Can Opener"?
I have seen similar problems like that and if Disk first aid, Norton Disk Doctor do not fix the problem, you might need to format the drive.
