Hi everyone,

I'm having difficulties setting up my home wireless network. My internet (which relies on the network) is working, but I cannot access my other computer's files from this one. I've given them both the same workgroup name, and the other computer can "see" this one in the workgroup, but does not have permission to access it. This computer doesn't even have permission to access the workgroup. Thanks a bunch for any and all help!

Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what is allowed to be shared.

Okay, I think I've got it working now, but it seems to be erratic. Any tips? Also, on one computer, I can't find the Windows firewall to deactivate it; it's not in the control panel nor accessible from my Network Connections. Any ideas?

Thanks again for the help.

It depends on the OS you have installed on your PCs. Maybe you have other than Windows XP?
Can you tell us which OS you're using on both PCs?
And I don't recommend turning off the firewall.

I've got XP and ZoneAlarm on all of them, and the Windows Firewall has never been anything but a headache for me. And yes, ZoneAlarm is configured for a network.

However to disable XP native Firewall you can to get to the services and disable the Firewall service.

1. Click Start and Run
2. Type into the Run box "services.msc" (without the quotation).
3. Scroll down and look for the Windows Firewall service.

Screen Shot of the services, http://www.ezlan.net/network/WZC-Service.jpg

Double Click on the Service, and disable it.

BTW, ZA is a pain for Network usuage as well.

For ZA, I just created a new "Zone" that included the ip addresses of all the computers in the network and my isp; is there anything else I should do? Now I'm wondering if ZA was the problem all along.
