I realize there are similar threads on this forum regarding this issue, but the solutions seem to be specific to the PC. SOme of the tools people are being asked to use specifically warn about using them without assistance from people like you who can understand the output.

When I try to perform a scan in McAfee, I receive the message:

An Error Has Occurred

Scanning has encountered a problem for which it cannot recover.
Here are the problem details:
- Error Starting On Demand Scanner

When finished, you will return to the Home window.

I seem to have intermittent problems with Windows Vista shutting down (mostly when I use Windows Explorer 8), plus I am unable to install Windows 7 Home Premium. When I try, after the program downloads the installation updates, the "Install Now" option keeps coming up and I get stuck in a loop. Can someone help with this situation? Thank goodness Firefox seems to work since I am having trouble with system restarts when using Windows Explorer.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Cause currently i'm just using the Windows 7 Error Checking Tools (chkdsk.exe and disk defragmenter) and its taking a good while, and was wondering that there has to be an easier means.

Btw, all hard drives are NTFS.

I am working on an Acer Aspire 5050. When I first saw it, you had to strike the keyboard keys with force and repeatedly to get it to type a letter. On average, for every 10 strikes, it would type 4 strokes. I have researched this and have found no answers, just a lot of speculation and "try a restore or reformat", which is not an option for this owner. I tried disabling the Launch Manager, which controls the keyboard, but it made no difference after it reinstalled. I did see a post about the ACPI possibly being an issue. Since I could not find a way to disable it, and I did not want to risk having no battery management and who knows what other side effects, I decided to try the unit without the battery installed. I shut down the computer, removed the battery and rebooted the computer. Guess what - no more keyboard issue!! However, as soon as I put the battery back in, the keyboard stopped working properly again! The battery still seems to hold a good charge, lasting 1.5 hours according to the owner.
Does anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks!

My main question is can the mini books use the programs I want to use them with? Is it possible to run an external hard drive with programs on it through the mini laptop?

I found these on CNET reviews.......

HP Compaq Business nx7010
Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook
Sony Vaio VGN-P588E Lifestyle PC

Any advice?

Alright here's the problem. I have an IBM ThinkPad R51 laptop (type 1831) which I bought in 2004 so it's a little old. I basically just use it for browsing the web but the problem is with the wireless. Sometimes when I turn on the computer the internet will work just fine. Other times the wireless signal comes in and out, never staying on long enough for me to be able to do anything. If I go into the device manager the network adapter shows three things.

1. 1394 Net Adapter #2
2. Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection
3. Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection

If the internet is going in and out, I just disable the 2nd one (PRO/100 MT Mobile Connection) and everything seems to work just fine. Does anyone know what that one is for? Any way to completely disable it? I am trying to stabilize the laptop for 6 more months before I buy a new one. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I wanted to know if it makes a difference if, when the computer comes back up, it says "windows shut down unexpectedly" and another time it said something to the effect of complete system shutdown. Do you think it could still be capacitor or power supply related. It is a Dell XPS laptop about a year old.

Hi!

I've been trying to import the files from "My Pictures"/"My Documents" from a CD I made with my previous XP computer into my new computer with Windows 7.

I tried clicking on the "import pictures and videos" prompt when I insert the CD, but it will show an approximate time it finishes, then freezes seconds into it, only a couple pictures make it.

I've tried to copy and paste between 2 windows (one window displaying CD contents, the other window with "My Pictures" file open on the new computer).
I'll try to copy one folder of pictures, it copies a couple pictures over then freezes. It said there were 20 seconds left, but the bar stopped moving.

I was hoping to find an easy "Import" option in the File Menu of "My Pictures" in Windows 7.
:-o
