Why do these drives show every time I restart my computer? Other than manually removing them, how can I prevent them from being shown/mounted on each reboot?

Do you have a card reader on your computer or printer?

Too many removable disks, my fathers vista PC has 4-5 "removable disks" seen in My Computer....this is highly annoying and confusing when inserting a USB flash drive, as you do not know which it is to access and to eject when finishing, especially as the flash drive does not always go to last on list!!!

I believe these spare "removable disks" are the card readers, which are rarely used, can they be better permanently renamed easily, if so please provide instruction?

To know which ones to select, you tick/check the box at the bottom of the "Safely Remove Hardware" popup box that says Display device components.

Apologies but I don't fully understand your explanation, especially the first 6 words...I am asking how to rename permanently?
Or better still remove from view (not disabled), so that they appear when a card is inserted, just the same way as a USB flash drive......

If you're running Windows 7 (POSSIBLY Vista as well, not sure), with My Computer open, press the Alt key (to show the top left menu), click Tools, Folder Options, View tab, select "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder".

If you have "show hidden files and folders" checked, they will still appear, though lighter than active drives, but if you have "hide hidden files and folders" checked, they will be invisible until used.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, will try, an acceptable solution for my father, I think.
But if this was me, I would most definitely NOT use this - why are these so awkward, and also removal/ejecting flash drives?

Using Vista - TweakUI failed to install, and DeskDrive doesn't seem to have he facilty needed.

    Just as it should be.
The O.P. merits a valid answer and solution.
A thread hijacker should not expect a solution for the O.P. to also meet his need.
