Very slow computer & Red Slash through https!

Computer is getting progressively slower and I now have a red slash through the 'https' part of address for my virginmedia mail with a small red cross to the left![see picture]. Have never seen anything like this before; are the two things connected? Hope you can help.

I click red x get info box with tabs permissions/connections. Permissions are all either google or virginmedia. Connections says site is verified Class 3 but includes other resources which are not secure. Under site information says site first visited on 29 Sept. 2014. How do I find this site so I can 'block it'? What will I then need to do to get my computer working quickly again?

    Thanks in advance.

You haven't given me any info like operating system being used, or which browser you're using.
*Following the steps of the READ & RUN ME First that I linked to is the best beginning point.

Using Windows 7 Pro, Google Chrome, Firefox, and sometimes Internet Explorer 9. You did say don't bother with "Run & read me first etc." Should I now do that?
Just looked again and the red strike out is now gone and icon is green. However computer is still very slow.

    Yes, as I stated...

    Hello dr.moriarty

OK, I'll go back to the start. But this is what you said to me in your first reply:

    Hello, scrumhalf

Personally, I wouldn't waste any time going through the READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide (incl. spyware, virus, trojan, hijacker) and attaching the logs for review.

I am just starting the 'READ & RUN ME First....' and will post to you later today. Thanks.

    Ran CCleaner OK
    " RogueKiller and attached report
" Malewarebytes AM said trial licence expired and would not run again.
    " Kaspersky TDSSKiller file attached
" Hitman Pro 3.7.9 - Build 231 said trial licence expired and would not run again. [expiration date 2014-04-02]
Ran MGTools just got new tab with 403 Forbidden on new tab!

    1) You should be using the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Free) version.
    2) HitmanPro should still scan and produce a log even when the trial license has expired, mine does.
    3) You've run into this previously - remember to click the "Remember Me" check box when logging into Major Geeks.

1: I am running the recent downloded file by right-clicking and have saved the scan as ScanMalwareA-M31102014 which is attached.
2: Ran HitmanPro by right clicking, started automatic update [also said Trial licence expired. Removal of viruses and other malicious software is disabled. "BUY NOW"]. Then clicked next and started scanning computer. Saved scan as HitmanPro_20141031_1148. [Noticed a lot of reference in the saved file to "Conduit" which I've had trouble with before!]
3: MGTools: I go to MGTOOLS [last in list of BLUE NAMES] click it and immediately get "403 Forbidden". What should I do to be able to run this file?

As Dr.M already stated the below is the most likely cause.

I have remembered to click the 'remember me' box when logging in, but still can't run MGTOOLS.My internet security is F-Secure and the current notice is "Your computer is protected. All security features are up-to-date ". Last check 03/11/2014 @ 08.39.
I have taken note of the forum posting from chaslang 'How to protect yourself from Malware!' and visited Windows update to make sure that all updates have been installed and set the updates to automatic install.
If I need to run MGTOOLS before you can give me any help please tell me what else I can do to make it run?
My computer is still slow although the Red Slash through https has changed to a green icon. Can you not do anything with the logs I have already supplied? Thanks.

Do you mean you cannot run it or you cannot download it? Last message was you could not download it.

We need this log to make a proper fix.

Use a different browser to download. IE has less problems.

I mean I can't download it. I click on the MGTOOLS blue icon and unlike the others above it goes to a tab labelled HTTP 403 Forbidden. This in IE as you suggested; I've just tried clicking on other items in the list and they take me to a Download page on another tab.
I have turned off F-Secure which is now saying:
Your Computer is NOT protected. [see attachment]

Have you tried downloading MGTools.exe while booted into Safe Mode with Networking?

    Alternative diagnostic scan

Please download OTL by Old Timer to your desktop.

Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • See the download links under this icon: [IMG]
    • Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):
    • Double-click OTL.exe to run (Vista and Win7/8 right click and select Run as administrator)
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top-right, make sure Standard Output is selected.
    • Select Scan All Users.
    • In the Processes box and the Services box choose All.
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • Copy the text in the code box below and paste it into the [IMG] text-field.
      Code:
      activex
      netsvcs
      drives
      msconfig

    • Now click the [IMG] button.
    • When the scan is complete, Notepad will open with the results of the OTL scan.
    • Close Notepad.
    • There will be two log files on your desktop entitled OTL.txt and Extras.txt.
    • Attach both OTL.txt and Extras.txt to your next message. (How to attach items to your post)

*Other than the tools our guide instructed you to save there, I strongly recommend that you clean up this account's Desktop immediately leaving only shortcut links. [ C:\Users\DavidB\desktop ] Do not store downloads, exe files, iso files....etc on your Desktop. First it is not a safe place to keep them (i.e., you may loose them due to malware, and a cluttered Desktop is an easy hiding place for malware), and last but not least - it can have an effect on your PCs performance.

Using "Programs & Features" uninstall: (If you do not find it or it will not uninstall, just keep going.)
    AVG SafeGuard toolbar

Now shut down your protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) to avoid possible conflicts. *Re-enable them before physically reconnecting to your ISP.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [iLivid] "C:\Users\DavidB\AppData\Local\iLivid\iLivid.exe" -autorun

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large [IMG] button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Make sure to shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Next download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • When it's done you'll see: Pending: Please uncheck elements you don't want removed.
    • Now click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
    • Look over the log especially under Files/Folders for any program you want to save.
    • If there's a program you may want to save, just uncheck it from AdwCleaner.
    • If you're not sure, post the log for review. (all items found are either adware/spyware/foistware)
    • If you're ready to clean it all up.....click the Clean button.
    • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
    • Attach that logfile to your next reply.
    • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which are created when running the tool.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select "Run As Administrator").

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    • AdwCleaner[S#].txt
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Actions Today[6/11/2014]
1 Uncluttered desktop. Left some on, not really sure what I should leave - I've seen many friends with lots of icons on their desktops.
    2 Uninstalled AVG toolbar.
    3 Shut down F-Secure.
4 Ran C:\MGtools\analyse.exe and exited as instructed.
5 Downloaded OTM, pasted in lines from codebox, clicked the MoveIt! to run. It ran for a few seconds then went to 'not responding' and I had to shut PC down by switching off. It had removed all items from desktop and although the mouse pointer would move it wouldn't do anything.
6 Another strange thing; when I rebooted it put the icons left on the desktop all over the screen. I can only image they must be in their original positions before I moved more than half of them.
Is there another way to run the OTM file to get a result?
Haven't really tested much but PC seems to be running better.
PS: I've said thanks often in my posts, but is there a more formal way of doing it, i.e. a tick box or something?
3 of the 4 logs attached.

The MGlogs.zip file show that OTM successfully performed as directed although it didn't produce a log.

Please test your machine for a day and post a reply describing its performance.

My machine is running well now and I will try to keep it so. I have printed out the article by your colleague chaslang "How to Protect yourself from malware!" and will endeavour to follow its recommendations. I still have more work to do on clearing my desktop of stored files to leave only shortcut links.

Thank you again for your patience and help in getting me up to speed. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

    You're welcome!

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase it, it provide no protection. It do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and re-enable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7/8 - it is time to make sure you have re-enabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Go to the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Win 7/8, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work through the below link:
