Update Android Phone

How does one get an android phone updated that doesn't have an updatable app installed?

I am talking about the actual operating system here.

 

First make sure it is connected to a WiFi source. Next go to Settings > About Device > Software Updates > Update Now

The exact location 0f the above will depend on the brand and model but you can google the User Guide with those details.

 

Are you still using a Chinese phone with KitKat (v4) that you used last year?
KitKat (as of Sept. 2016) was still being used on 27.7% of phones.

Not all phones can be updated.

No.
I am now on Android 6.0 with an update app installed.

I do, though, have an Android 4.4.2 tablet I am not using and would like to update.

My older phones are still about ready to be binned unless I can find a use for them.

I think my question is getting answered - not all phones can be updated.
Mine are Chinese copies with fanciful names. Not your famous Samsung's and HTC's.
Even Debenhams web stores are selling these.

 

I am looking for an app, MT.
My gadgets are not branded.

 

Maybe go to the user guide on the website of the named Chinese tablet you have.

 

Or look inside the tablet itself for some identifying name/details.
