Toshiba Satellite, Screen Doesn't Come On.

    Toshiba Satellite L755-S5153
    Windows 10.

It was upgraded to Windows 10 sometime last week. Ran fine for a few days, then when they went to turn it on a few days ago, it flashed the Toshiba splash screen and the screen went black. Now, when you turn it on the power button comes on and hard drive light flashes, like it's accessing the hard drive. The fans also kick on, but it sounds like it's pulsating.
The screen itself does not come on at all, no back light or anything it just looks like it's still turned off.

I pulled the hard drive and backed up the files on it as a precaution, when doing so I tried to boot the system without it to see if it kicked me out to needing a media to boot from, but it acts the same, except that the hard drive light still flashes like it's trying to access the hard drive that's no longer there.

Any ideas on how I should proceed, or any idea what caused this?

    Thanks,
    Spock96

** Sorry for sounding scatterbrained, long day at work.

The first thing to try on any laptop with a blank screen is an external monitor. If it is connected and on, most laptops will use it when you turn on the laptop; but, some may make you fuss with the key which looks like a screen somewhere along the top.
If the external monitor works, try reseating the video cable on the system board end.

I tried an external monitor to no avail. Which has me thinking it's a hardware issue, maybe an unseated connection, or broken wire.
Any other suggestions before I open it up?

That laptop has an Intel B960 CPU and it is highly unusual for them to fry (unlike AMD's); but, your symptoms match either a sensed overheating issue or a voltage issue on one of the CPU's supplies. Remove the DVD drive, blow the dirt out of it, and reseat or try different ram. If none of those get you the Toshiba POST (splash screen), the system board is almost undoubtedly the culprit.

I agree it definitely sounds like the motherboard. One more thing to try in addition to what everyone else suggested is to remove the battery and unplug the laptop and hold down the power button for 60 seconds. Now put the battery back in and plug it in and see if it will turn on. I have lost count of the amount of times I have "fixed" laptops that do what yours is doing with that trick. I also have got a couple of Toshiba laptops with that issue to turn back on by wrapping them in a towel while running. Its the same trick that people used to do to the Xbox 360. I am not suggesting it as a long term fix, but it lets you know for sure that your motherboard needs to be reballed or replaced.

I've been out of the repair game for a little while now, how would that prove it was my motherboard?

I can't find a part number for this motherboard in any of the documentation I have looked through. Any idea where to look next?

    Hey Eldon,
I looked through those earlier and nothing was ever said about a specific motherboard. When I search for it via Google, everything jut says "Replacement Motherboard for Toshiba Satellite L755-S5153"

Look under the ram chips, some laptop models put the motherboard part number there. On some laptops you have to just take out the motherboard and look on the front and back to try to find the model number. You definitely don't want to order one that is not the exact same model number. Since you have to take out the motherboard to replace it anyway, now would be a good time to go ahead and remove it and verify it.

That motherboard was probably specifically made for Toshiba. I had the same problem finding the motherboard model no. for an Acer.
The only option is to open the laptop and hope there's a model no. on the motherboard.

    Thanks Eldon,
That was my original intention but wanted to see if I could find it without taking it apart.

    Model: BLB
And there was a sticker under that reading:
    A000080670ZB039902W
Which is what I'm looking for? I tried googling both but nothing seemed to match the layout of the part of the board I could see.
