We know in this day and age many are very concisus of ID or data theft and here at Majorgeeks we talk this serious and one thing that may help in the new forum software (XenFro) is the ability to have a two step verification of your account, this aids in recovery of your account if the worst happens and you forget your password or your user and password have been compromised.

The options are to verity via email, likely you will have done this already when setting up your account, but for some older members before the change of software you may not have, email verification is the last resort option. The second option is to verify via a QR tag code using a mobile app such as Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator or the likes of Authy https://www.authy.com/app/mobile/

As I have a Windows 10 Phone, I will be using the https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/apps/authenticator/9wzdncrfj3rj app (Free)

    1. Enter your forum account options and you can easily do this via clicking your username to the top right side of the page, blue highlighted option in the image below then click the Two Step Verification option the blue highlighted area.

    2. Then choose your method of verification (choices are via an app to your phone, may likely work on tablets too like and iPad or Android device) and click Enable I have chosen the phone app route, you will gain a QR Tag, this is where you open the app on your phone and scan the QR Tag to gain a code that you enter into the box provided, highlighted in green.

    3. You can manage your codes and its wise to backup your codes somewhere safe, many of the apps also allow you to save your codes.

While you can action the code to be live for 30 days, if you use a PC cleaner such as CCleaner, this will likely remove the code, so you will have to enter it on each logon, but that is a safer option.
