Want to show movies that I see on my desktop on my dumb flatscreen that has PLEX. The dumb TV has ROKU and PLEX.

If you've already done steps 1 & 2, go ahead and start at step 3.

The tiny Roku box can do a lot of stuff, but not everything. The Roku can't stream your personal library of music, photos, and videos without a little help from Plex, anyway. Plex works like a charm, though it can be tricky to set up. Here's how to get started:

    1. Add the Plex channel to your Roku.

    2. Download and install the Plex Media Server utility for Windows. This is the software that'll link your media library to your box.

    3. Right-click the Plex Media Server icon in your System Tray, then choose Media Manager. That should open a new tab in your browser, which is where you'll set up the media you want to share with your Roku. It may take a minute or two before any options appear, so be patient.

    4. Eventually you'll see five options for adding media to your library. The process is the same for all, so click one (say, Photos), then click Add and navigate to the folder containing the photos you want to add. Click Add again if you want to include additional folders.

    5. When you've finished making your selections, click Add Section. Again, it may take a minute or two for your media to appear in the browser tab.

    6. Now head to your TV, fire up the Roku, and choose the Plex channel. You should see your selected media channels, which you can now browse and view as you like.

If you have trouble navigating your media owning to filename confusion, check out Plex's Naming Guide, which is a bit confusing but can ultimately be of some help.

Also, if you have trouble with pixelation, grab the latest version of Plex Media Server directly from Plex.

Let me know if this works for you.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

I had long ago done all that you show, and, yes, I can view everything in my library on my TV, as well as play all of my music.

What I want to do, is stream movies/videos on YouTube and the like, on my desktop, and relay them to my TV where I can watch them in more comfort.

Does your desktop have an HDMI connector?

I'll have to check. I think it has one. What if it does?

You can connect an HDMI cable from it to the TV.

I see. The TV is on the opposite side of the house from the computer. Is there also a limitation on length of HDMI cable? Maybe there's a wireless system that I can install?

That's too bad. The maximum recommended length is 25 feet without a booster to avoid signal degradation. For the trouble and expense of an HDMI extender, especially wireless, I suggest a cheap Android box as an alternative. I just used a Miracast dongle and my phone's Chrome browser to watch the movies on the site you posted earlier. If you already have a tablet with an HDMI output, that would do the job too.

I see an HDMI connector on the back of my computer. I can run a temporary HDMI cable between it and the TV on the floor and down the stairs, and roll it up when not in use. The shortest cable I can use would be 30 feet long.

It's possible but I would not scrimp on the cable.

This is the setup i use to watch movies and stuff off my laptop.HDMI is probably the better option.

My mom use to have roku and i found out that roku kept sucking up her internet.Has a limit of 250Gb of data month same as me.If you have a limit be care full on how much of the roku you use.It can easily go over your data limit if you have one.
