    Hi people,

I have a some flashing blue lights for my computer, they use a 12v molex connect to the computers PSU.

Would I be able to cut the molex connector off and connect it to a 12v battery instead? (I want to use it external to the psu).

ie. instead of connecting to the molex 12v for the power source, use a 12v battery?

    many thanks :)

That should work fine - til the battery voltage drops.
Mind the polarity and the amp draw.

What I use instead of a battery for testing PC parts is a 12V power adaptor,I have loads of them from old peripherals so I've just connected the female connectors from an old PSU to one end of the adaptor so you can just plug in an fans or lights ect. to test them with the molex, that way you don't have ruin the lights by cutting off the plug.

EDIT and obviously you don't need to keep changing the battery.

I did something similar, to convert one of those 12" long blue florescent lights to a night light to put under my bed. The little 12 v power supply, with a molex connector, works great. I even put it on a timer.
