I have two ram sticks 2 Giga and 512 Mb, the 2 giga is appearing as 1 giga.
I have asus p5vd2-mx motherboard, i do believe he supports dual sided RAM but correct me if i'm wrong.
Other then that can a BIOS update help in this case?

First I would go into the bios and see what your ram appears as. I'm thinking it will say as 512 MB x2

And yes a bios update could help solve this issue.

i think it will have something to do with the os system you have.

i put 4 in mine but only 3 show up but the other gig is being used up for windows i am told

As 'pclover' pointed out, a BIOS update may help you resolve this issue, however - if you are using high density RAM, then you may still see the same result. Most desktop motherboards do not support high density RAM.

I know it isn't really part of the original topic, but 32bit OS's only "support" 3.3GB's (I say this due to actual range of around 2.75~3.5GB's) of RAM, hence why yours only shows as 3.

The rest of it is used for the BIOS, PCI bus's (Including it's "bridges") and PCI-E cards may reserve up to 768MB of RAM for use, depending on its onboard memory.
