2 Users on 1 Computer - Will Adaware and Spybot clean for both?

My wife and I use the same PC at home, with Windows XP Home Edition. If I install Spybot and AdAware SE and run them when I am logged in and she is logged out, will they remove all of the adware, etc. from the computer, or is it necessary for each of us log in separately and run these programs twice?

Scans must be run on each user account. And just to warn you ahead of time, there is no such tool that will remove ALL adware from the computer. It depends on the level of problem. For minor problems yes they will get everything. More typically they clean what they can and manual clean is needed. You should read the sticky threads that appear at the top of each page in this forum.

I reviewed the sticky post regarding basic spyware, trojan and virus removal several times in the past, when I have helped friends clean their PCs. I have always used Norton Antivirus and kept it up to date on my computer. I have also been using Spybot for over a year, and AdAware SE for a couple of months. So far, I have been lucky with my PC. The issue is that even though I regularly run Spybot and AdAware, my wife doesn't. I guess I'll have to get her into the routine. Thanks for your help.

I had the same problem. I would only run the antispy programs on my account. My wife and kids each have seperate accounts. I try to keep the accounts to a minimum.
I had a problem that kept recurring ( at that time I was not running the antispy programs on the other accounts). When I started running on all accounts at problems disappeared. You may want to run the initial scan in safe mode and do a full system scan.

The problem has to do with the permissions that the spy /adware documents use.

You should read our sticky threads too. They already tell you to scan in safe mode.

No problem! That is why I suggested reading the stickies. All new users should!
