I put in a new Toshiba laptop hard drive with an OEM OS - XP Home.

    QUESTIONS

    1) I wonder if there is a good reason I must watch this screen for 30 seconds on each startup while the little DOS-like timer thingie appears to turn over and over again...(I know there's a name for that thingie...I do not think it's a Widget...many apps have a progress bar or something spinning so we know the 'puter is workin' on it)

    2) If there is NO good reason, how can I shorten the delay?

Here's the screen that appears just before the usual Windows XP screen with its moving bar:

what you can try is right click on my computer then choose properties from the drop down menu.on the next window choose the advances tab then startup and recovery.in the next window you will see choice of operating systems and under that you will see time to display list of operating systems mine is set at 3 sec.
