I have 2 -250g hd in the bottom of my case, there right next to each other-are ide and the heat never goes over 39 C. Is this ggod?

I want to add a 500gb sata hd but the only place is right under my dvd-rw drive. I am concerned the heat could hurt the dvd-rw. Is this reasonable or of no real concern?

39C is not very hot. I think you will be fine adding another drive. If you are worried about heat, add a case fan or two. I prefer to have my hard drives right behind my intake fan, but if they won't fit, I put them where ever I can find room.

Hard drives are designed to be mounted with the metal surface uppermost. They will last longer on average this way, although too many pc manufacturers ignore this.
