Finally cooled off here, time to fire up Folding to heat the computer room. ProDuo at modest overclock is like a hair drier.

DOA, I agree with the need for link repairs, especially since Stanford apparently reworked the website, which resulted in some new URLs.:p Herein are my proposals for our MG repairs. Perhaps you and others will validate what I propose. Maybe even an admin will take note.;)

    Hi all

Done on email to Tim/Jim on the changes and updates to the F@H links, great that you all still do this.

OMG my F@H user ID is at 69 in the MG team!

Tim, thanks for the fantastic redo on the Site Info. It all happened, while I slept and it wasn't a dream!:D I especially like the add of the link to
this thread. Sometimes it gets lost in the Lounge.:rolleyes:Atm, I can't think of any other changes, but maybe some of the others have ideas. David,
great job on relaying to the right person. It really made for a smooth flow, start to finish. Well done all!:)

I've joined the folding team and I've left everything at it's defaults. When I went on my Inspiron laptop this morning, the air coming out of the vent was only moderately warm. I run 4 versions of Windows on the Inspiron and only have the client installed on one version (8.1 Pro) though.

I also have a Latitude running 3 versions of Windows and am skeptical about installing the client on the Latitude because it runs considerbly warmer than the Inspiron (I think it needs an air dusting but, I can't do it or afford to have a computer tech do it).

It will use a ton of CPU. Set it to run only when idle and lower the power to medium or light. You could also set it to start with Windows and close it before you finish for the day or stop it.

Buy a can of air, take side of the case off, take it outside and blow it out. It's easy to do and for the most part, safe and hard to damage everything. Just do it in bursts and shake the can as it often sprays a little wet if you just spray non-stop.

    And welcome!

Actually, the client is set for low cpu/gpu usage (10%). The latitude is a laptop and I have cans of compressed air. My problems are vision and tremors. I have the service manual for the Latitude but can't read the print — it's too small and my tremors have caused me to fling tiny screws to points unknown.

I'm not a fan of doing it with laptops. You made the right call. In the case of a laptop, you'd want to remove the underside and blow things out. I don't like blowing the fans on a laptop because the dust goes in, not out. While they aren't hard to remove the back, I don't recommend most people do it.

OK. I'll just do folding on the Inspiron laptop and in Win 8.1 Pro. I won't install the client on the other 3 versions of Windows I've got installed. I've been running the client for about 24 hours now and there are no problems to report so, I'll leave it run.

I'm curious. Has our team reached the "saturation point"? I left Win 8.1 Pro, where I have the fah client installed, to go into Windows 10 for a while. I went back to Win 8.1 Pro and when I hover my mouse over the fah icon in the System Tray, it says "no active folding slots available".

Right click the icon and select "Advanced Control". You should see the status of what is happening. Also, check the "Log" tab.

There's no "log" tab that i can find. I brought up the protein viewer and there is activity.

Folks you are doing a great thing and while most if not all of folding is not related as yet to my medical research work, its invaluable to cancer and other areas, think they deal with malaria which is some of my work.

    KEEP FOLDING.....

  20. StruldBrug

mdonah, after you click on Advanced Control, it should bring up a window, showing status. There are three buttons on it ; Fold, Pause, and Finish. Just above the three buttons are three small tabs: Status, System Info, and Log. Do you see these?
Your Advance Control Status should display similar to this:

Nvidia display driver 376.09 was released on 28 Nov. It seems to be good at breaking and not fixing things. There are still quite few disgruntled
users on the Nvidia forum. Nvidia responded that the Folding@Home issues haven't been resolved. (See post# 30) https://forums.geforce.com/default/...-driver-feedback-thread-released-11-28-16-/1/

Folding@Home suggests not using it either. Another Bug Report has been submitted by DutchForce. (See page 6) https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=29276&start=75

    I'm still using 373.06

It breaks gaming too... at least several of mine are running a lot worse on that driver than they did before the update. Rolling back as we speak.

Hey, sorry it took a while to reply. I haven't had time to go online until now (Football watching is important!)

Two things - Speccy calls that OP's nvidia driver "undefined". The most recent driver for the GTX 670 has version number "undefined". As in, that word instead of a number. Personally, I would not want that driver on my computer for that reason alone.

I rolled back to this driver, same version you did. I don't want to post in that thread and add yet another chef and more confusion, but my recommendation would be for the OP to download the correct driver for his card, then reboot to SafeMode and install there. Make sure the installer is allowed to remove all traces of the old driver, and run the installer by right-clicking and selecting Run As Administrator. Best way I know of to fix a corrupted video driver.

    Good luck! :)

Well, I'll be... Re-reading the Speccy report, your OP in that thread has a version of my motherboard, the P8Z77-V. He has the LK, I have the Deluxe version. I have never had any issues at all with it, but I never attempted to use the onboard video adapter.

While I haven't closely re-read the thread and may be suggesting something that's already been tried, the only things left to do if your last suggestion doesn't work, is t replace the card and see if that fixes the issue.

Or update the motherboard BIOS. ASUS motherboards are weird like that.

Part time running my ProDuo. Seems like the ProDuo is made to fold. I shut folding off in the evenings when I game.
Will be interesting how the Fermi's stack up, takes a few days for folding points to build up and level out.

changed out the high temp GTX 470's one is the Asus Nvidia gtx660 ti,the other MSI N570GTX Twin Frozr lll, keeping one of the EVGA GTX 470's in my newly aquired HP workstation z400 Xeon W5580,so now running 6 slot's, 3 cpu's and 3 gpu's.

I hope the weather stays cool enough here, though I should be able to run the cpu's year round.

had to shut down the Xeon quad core W5580 cpu, over heating as I did not think when I changed out the W3503 I would need a better performing heat sink fan which is on it's way by snail mail.

I had no idea running 3 GPU's and 2 CPU's would have such an impact!

I had stopped crunching, doing the Folding@home project back in 2013.
Took me some time to get back into the know of things.
Which has me to wonder why the many Majorgeeks.com member's/donor's are not running at least 1 CPU (newer dual core or better) or GPU (fermi)

    and thank you DOA.

going to shut down two (2) GPU's ,the GTX 470's on local and spare soon, though I did purchase another N570GTX TWIN FROZR III POWER EDITION/OC as this card does well on ppd @ high 40,000 almost 50,000 ppd.

P.S. using fah-installer_7.4.16_x86.exe installing to C:/ drive and this particular setup on windows 7 pro x64 O/S localhost is the only slot / computer using the updated fah-installer and Nvidia drivers because of constant bad work units, the other three (3) computers are using fah-installer_7.4.4_x86.exe with Nvidia driver 373.06 that Mimsy posted with no ill results on those computers, all computers are windows 7 pro x64

It seems the NVIDIA drive issues have died down for the time being, due to some temporary fixes. The warning to avoid 375/376.xx (for xx<48)
is still in place. Later drivers seem to be working. However, PPD Points per Day, are reported to be lower for the newer drivers. So, it seems a number of folders are staying with the 372 series or 373.06, as I have. My folding seems to be working fine, so I choose not to "Fix it".
Besides. my rig is really old and doesn't always do well with new drivers. My gaming is old stuff, too. So, no needs there.;)

I just got a new GTX 970 for super cheap and I don't have very much time to play video games right now, so I decided to go for that #1 spot on our team (forecast to jump from #8 to #4 in less than two months). I found something that might help in the current Nvidia GPU driver: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answ...-setting-optimize-for-compute-performance-do? (Nvidia Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings -> Optimize for Compute Performance -> On) Please note that this might reduce gaming performance if you have the global setting enabled.

Go to it Speculant and may the Force be with you! My machine's mobo finally died with regally crowning electrolytics. At least I got 13 years out of it. So, nowadays I'm relegated to folding laundry to get to use the machine of "she, who must be obeyed," with no gpu.
