I'd like to install FixTunes Setup v5.4.exe from http://www.fixtunes.com/download.php so I can fix up missing iTunes artwork.

    Avast has reported it as:-
    Malware type: Virus/Worm and
Malware name as Win32 Trojan-gen (Other).

Can anyone check this out for me? Is it a false positive or is it infected with an actual Virus?

    All help appreciated. Bazza

I just downloaded it and tested it and got two flags about it out of 20 apps. I would say it's just a false positive however I can't confirm because my test machine is down at the moment. If you have a test machine or something you can install it on and test it I would do that. Remember even it's legit, if you keep Avast! you will continue to get the warning about it until it's resolved.

Thanks, bjgarrick for your quick reply. I think I'll try another program instead.
Who needs the aggravation, FP or not. :-D Bazza

    bjgarrick,

thinking this over an hour later, it is Avast that has let me down. :cry
It didn't flag the program as a False Positive when I downloaded it.
It didn't flag the program as a False Positive when I installed the program.
It wasn't until a day or so later that Avast picked it up.
Had it been a genuine "nasty" then anything could have happened.

Can you recommend a real-time AV program, Free or $$$ that really works in real-time. Obviously Avast doesn't, for me.

    Thanks and regards, Bazza

Well, I personally use Avast! and haven't had any problems as of yet. There are no perfect AV applications out there IMHO, each AV will have its issues. AVG had their major issue today, Avast! has FP's and so on...it's up to you to pick the one you are most comfortable with. I use to love AVG until they updated to v8 then I started to like it less and less until I said enough is enough. I've been using Avast! since and so far haven't had any issues. My only complaint with Avast! is, if you're going to offer a free AV, don't require a key, free or not.

Like you, bjgarrick, I used to use AVG for ages and then switched to Avast.

I guess I'll stick to Avast after all, despite the occasional FP. :cry

My apologies for not replying earlier. Fortunately I don't have to visit the Malware section very often, and I missed your reply. Regards to all the great helpers there, and yourself of course. :major Bazza
