Abnormally long time for PC to get power

    Dear all,

My PC is connected to the power source via a UPS. For the last one month I am finding that it is taking a long time (more than 15 minutes) between the UPS switch on and the CPU switch on. I have tried to eliminate the UPS and make the power supply directly from the power socket in the wall. Even then I have to wait for a minimum 15 minutes before I can switch on the CPU.
If I try to switch the CPU before that time then the 'green power-on light' on the CPU keeps flickering and nothing else happens.
Can someone please guide me as to how to resolve this issue?
    Regards.

your power supply is probably going bad. try to throw one you know is good in place of the one youre having problems with and see if that works out.

go get a replacement power supply, try to salvage one from a computer that your not using or about to throw away (trust me i made my computer work again with salvaged parts, the power supply isn't the only thing that you can slavage and install with no problems, justtry it and you'll be suprised, i slavaged a hard drive from my dad's computer that he or anybody else didn't want and now i use as a slave drive but my point here is that salvaged parts can be just as good as new parts

When you mean power supply, is it that device inside the CPU that you mean or the external source of power (wall socket). I am not a techie and as such slightly slow in comprehending the technical terms.

Behind the plug where you connect the power cord into the back of your computer is a box that controls the power getting to your computer parts. It contains a fan and capacitors to help keep too much power from shocking your system. You need to buy one that is compatible with your computer. http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=power+supply&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2

A shop will usually do it for about $100.00

Just an update. I opened the CPU cabinet today and tried to start the comp. I found that there is a fan on the motherboard which says Intel on it. The fan was trying to start but was always failing. It would start and then again come to a stop and this kept going on and on. Could this indicate that there is something wrong with the motherboard?

If your power supply is failing and you try to start the pc then yes the fan will start for a second and then shut off. As stated before I would recommend a new power supply and would stop trying to boot the pc until a good power supply is tested in it. If the power supply is bad and decides to completely fry it may take parts with it.
