Hello, I have been reading your malware Read & Run Me First sticky, I have been getting prepared to do the whole search & destroy thing, I've downloaded the GetRunKey & ShowMe, I am slowly downloading SpyBot...BUT as I already have SpyWare Doctor installed on my computer do I need to download CounterSpy or AVG Anti-Spyware? Can I not just use the Spyware Doctor instead?

You'll probably hear back from me as I have had trouble downloading SunJava , sorry!!

I couldn't download SpyBot...it got to some percentage download & the little download box has disappeared!!!
I did download CCleaner last night, I used the 'Issues' thingy twice & the 'Clean' thingy twice, both on default settings. Have I killed my computer?
The SunJava I downloaded the offline small version, it downloaded but froze while installing so I shut it down & then re-downloaded it but it got partway through & said another download was happening & it wouldn't do it.

Please! I am quite obviously not to be trusted with this alone:)

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Yes you need to run one of these and attach the log. Spyware Doctor is not useful to us since it does not find a lot of the things we look for and in addition, it does not produce useful logs. Is your copy of Spyware Doctor a paid version or free trial version?

Thank you! I didn't think you would be that quick!:)

It is the free version of Spy Doctor.

I will try to download AVG anti-spyware as I already have their anti-virus program. (Free one).

I edited original post as I am having trouble downloading. The SpyBot I put in D drive, it says the set up files were corrupted. It just didn't download.

Then it is basically useless and I recommend uninstalling it to avoid wasting system resources on it.

Try downloading it again to your C drive and make sure you are downloading from our link

Why did you use the Issues tab in Ccleaner? The READ & RUN ME specifically states the below:

Ahhh..Ok! Thank you! I am trying to download the AVG right now, it is up to 26% & still going so fingers crossed.

Because I am not to be left unattended with keys available to be pressed.

I downloaded it & mucked around with it BEFORE I got to your malware forum with the Read & Run Me sticky.

    Thank you again! :)

    Are you on dial-up?

Did you at least make the backups it suggested?

Yes. It sucks to be me.

Yes. That's a hopeful sign, is it?:)

Sorry I had to run, I had some Very Important Small Child duties to attend to.

    Back now, with minimal interruptions.

I have AVG Anti-Spyware now, I have it updating. The problem with downloading seemed to be if I hit 'Save' instead of 'Open'...maybe. I will give SpyBot another whirl.

Yes I could not live with dial-up.

I tell you what! Just do the below abbreviated instructions from the READ ME:

    • run Ccleaner if already downloaded and installed
    • run the AVG Antispyware scan since you have already downloaded it.
    • And skip the Spybot, BitDefender, and Panda scans
    • Then get the logs from GetRunKey, ShowNew, and HijackThis
Thus you should be attaching 4 logs:
    • AVG Antispyware
    • GetRunKey
    • ShowNew
    • HijackThis
This should save you a bunch of time. Off to bed for me..... 3:23 AM :zzz

3:23am huh? That's an hour & a bit before the time I normally get up!!! :eek

I will post logs in this thread when I get it all done, thank you again so much :celebrate Thought I would be spending the rest of the month downloading stuff!

Ok, here are the first three reports.

The Anti Spyware found nothing, I don't understand as the AVG Virus thingy had mydoom worms in it's virus vault. I emptied that before starting, was that right?

And here is the HijackThis log.

    What does it all mean?

Your logs do not show any malware. Are you having malware problems?

They do show that you still have the Spyware Doctor trial installed which is not going to help you since the trial will not fix anything.

Ok. I will get rid of Spyware Doctor.

I thought I had malware problems, I had an email claiming to be from my ISP provider saying that I was infected with a virus & my email account was sending lots of spam? I then had heaps of emails from the 'Post Office' etc. I deleted them all & didn't know if they were dodgy or not, so I came looking for ways to find out if it were true. A couple of the emails said they had attatchments, but AVG free edition must have eaten them before they got to my mailbox, as I couldn't see any. When I emptied the virus vault in the AVG, it did have a heap of MyDoom(?) worms in it?

So if my friends send me an email, that says it has an attatchment, & the attatchment is not there when it gets to my inbox, do THEY have a worm they are sending on, that my AVG is eating?

So I actually have to pay for effective spyware/virus protection? :cry

My sock drawer is pretty empty:) Damn this rain!!

Thank you very very very much, chaslang!!!

You probably were just getting incoming spam.

Possibly! Or you email program itself is blocking it.

No! See the below which is another one of our sticky threads that you should be reading:

    I'm back.

I have installed the SunJava as per 'How To Protect Yourself From Malware!' I have now gone to installing the 'Comodo Personal Firewall', it downloaded but when it went to install I got this message:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Kellie\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\ER46768E\outpostinstall[1].exe is not a valid Win32 application.

I think I may have gotton over enthusiastic with the CCleaner or the Your UnInstall??? Quite frankly I've had two days off work due to rain & I have just been annoying the computer. I could have done anything to it.

    sobs quietly

First, OutpostInstall is not for Comodo, it is for Outpost.
Second, why are you saving downloads or trying to run them from your TIF folder. Download them to a folder specifically created for them. Like C:\downloads\Comodo Firewall or C:\downloads\Outpost Firewall

Then after the file is dowloaded, goto the folder where you downloaded it, and run the install program you downloaded.

I cannot help you with things you may have messed up playing with CCleaner or Your Uninstaller on your own. In addition, it is not a malware issue which is what we work on in this forum.

Ok, thank you. Yes I meant Outpost, typed Comodo as I had the other window up looking at it.

    Will try again.

I didn't choose the Temporary folder, it automatically did.

I'll try the 'Save' instead of 'Run' button.
