Just wondering about some of these programs that can be bought, or, in some cases, added to one's standard dial up service for a few more bucks a month. I was using Turbo Connect some time back. Do these programs really speed up access to various sites? How does it work? I'd like some enlightenment.

    Thanks!!

    Hi Ron

Their is no magical fix to speed-up DUN, so if they say you do they are telling little white lies, what these services do its to use proxy servers to cache webpagesand compress images on a page to give you quicker access to pages, BUT at a cost of reduced quality.

While webpage speeds maybe or should I say how quick a page will show can be quicker, but its not vastly quicker ( and dont didnt believe the applications inbuilt speed readouts )

BUT these add-ons will NOT speed up your downloads ( I did a test on a relatives PC who installed OnSpeed and did a before and after speed test and it was actually slightly slower downloading software )
