Acer 5100 5022 no sound

    I am trying to hlep my neighbor get her sound to work on her comuter. she has had some virus problems in the past i have used malwareytes and the computer is clean of virus but now the sound dosnt work. She has no chice for a sound card also there is no volume control. i have tryed to download several of the realtek drivers nothing has seemsed to work.
    Anyone have any other ideas its driving me mad

    its an acer 5100 5022 It says there is no sound card at all although i know there is it just stoped working. the only thing everest found was a microsoft bus driver for high definition audio. and nothing else i am gonna run everest one more time and post the log

    Windows XP? Windows Vista?
    First, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any sound drivers you may have already installed; with XP, if the chipset drivers are listed, uninstall those too.
    For Windows XP, you have to install the chipset drivers. Because you have an ATI chipset, it will include the video drivers too. Then you'd install the UAA drivers from Microsoft. Then you'd install the sound driver.
    For Vista, you'd probably skip the UAA step.
