ACPI can it turn the fans off on my laptop?

    hi there
    i have a laptop that both fans have stopped working since i installed a new hard drive. i put in a new motherboard and all worked fine till iputa new 80gig hd in. then the fans just stopped working. does acpi control the fans in some way? please help im desperate. thank you in advance..
