Acronis True Image-"Secure Zone" problem?

Hi all, I have just installed "TI Home"on my new PC.
I have an 80GB HDD, it was 90% free space before I started TI. I ran through the "Secure Zone" setup wizard & let it select the disk space. It appears that it basically divided my C:drive in half. IT shows my C:drive to be at 41.11GB now but I don't see the SZ partition anywhere.
I just assumed that it was hidden from me and proceeded to make the first initial Full-Backup. When asked where I wanted to store it I selected SZ. It tells me it is not available & asks me if I want to create it now.
Of the 41.11GB on C: I am currently showing about (7.542 GB NTSF) and the rest is free space of ( 33.56 GB) which TI -SZ is now trying to divide in half again.
I got appx. 30GB somwhere that is unaccounted for, where did I go wrong & how can I recover this space. I've tried to go to the "Manage Acronis Secure Zone" but it does not show anything except my (C:drive-41.11GB)

I did a complete uninstall of TI hoping that it would restore back to the original settings. But when I checked my drive space on C: it was still 41.11GB. I have reinstalled TI again & now need that precious 30GB back.

Before I did the first install of TI, I had appx. 74GB on C: with about 67GB of free space. Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, rayzur

Sorry to hear of your problem. I have been thinking of purchasing Acronis True Image for backup as it has been recommended more than once by MG contributors.

This is one "feature" that no-one has previously mentioned and it is not what I want, having had another program that did a similar thing. particularly if the program does it without asking, or telling, you that is what it does.

I hope that users of True Image will reply to your problem and help you out. I will follow this thread with interest. Thanks for mentioning your dilemma. Bazza

    Hi again all,
I just created a new "secure zone" and this time it was successful.
I made it as small as it would let me , 39.3MB in case the same thing happened again. So that it would not hide another half of my already divided HDD.

In accordance with the instructions given by "dld's" post in pages 4-6 of wideglides thread-
    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=138333

I then went back through the "Manage Acronis Secure Zone" and was able to remove the new secure zone space. When I removed the 39.3MB's it removed the previous 30GB's that had been unacounted for.

I went back to "MY Computer" > local disk C: > and all is well with 74.5 total GB & free space of 67.0 GB.

I hope you get things worked out "wideglide", your thread sure helped me out though. My first "secure zone" was just unsuccessful though. I will try this all again & hope for the best. There are still better reviews on "True Image" than any other backup software. It was just a snag, thats all.

    Thanks again, rayzur

I have used Acronis for a couple of years now. I use a external hard drive (USB) and it wokrs perfectly. I have had to restore only two times and it worked great. I like the idea of a USB drive as I unplug it and put it away. Here in AZ we have lots of Lightning storms this time of year and I don't want it fried in case of a direct hit. Remember- If your HD dies, Acronis won't do any good if your file is on the same drive- think about it.

i agree with you, but it's more a harware issue, not to fry your computer especially HD, i'd sugget to use UPS.

Thanks, and you are correct- I do use a UPS, but I also take the extra precaution! The nice part of doing this is, I also use the external hard drive to back up my wife's machine, and also a third copy of all my photos.
