Adobe Reader 11 will not install...sheesh

good grief - I've never seen this problem. I've tried three times to install adobe reader and get this "can't open database" file error. read the adobe forum complaint threads, downloaded their cleanup tool, turned off AVAST, did the uninstall, got the all clear, restarted, turned off AVAST, try again, fail again with same message.

what's up with them?

Are you trying the online installation or update, or are you trying to install a stand-alone .exe?

 

standalone. tried the default latest/great first, it failed, and failed to uninstall which is why I went looking for their cleanup tool.
then tried [suggested on their forum] installing the 11.0; identical results.

i'm suspicious that their tool does not work well.

 

There have been security issues with Adobe products. If all ypu're doing is reading PDF documents with Adobe Reader, you could try Sumatra PDF.

 

Hey zapp, if you're using Firefox, it has a PDF reader built in by default.

I'm with mdonah on this, Sumatra is a great PDF reader, very low on resources too.

If not Sumatra, Foxit would be my next choice, Adobe Reader is bloated if you ask me.

 

Try installing it in Safe Mode. Doesn't always work but worth a try. I go with Sumatra as well.
